Hi everyone, and thanks for supporting BF2. Thanks to all of you out there, BF2 has seen great success around the world and we’d like to thank you all for that.
Since its launch, we’ve tried to give BF2 all the support it deserves by releasing patches with the fixes and improvements you’ve asked for. Unfortunately, we haven’t lived up to the standards we’ve set for ourselves and we know that. So all of us at EA and DICE are working extra hard to make sure that the BF2 experience improves dramatically in the coming weeks.
Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch, 1.03. This patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing before it goes out to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past. There are over 140 fixes and improvements in this patch. Here are just a few of them:
* Server and Client performance improvements
* Improved Server Browser - added Favorites and History Lists.
* Point-farming prevention - game will stop Support/Medic/Engineer point farming exploits.
* Squads - locked squad leader will get a message if someone wants to join.
* Many HUD improvements - see the names of others in your vehicle, zoom level changing depending on vehicle, map zoom depending on map setup (16, 32 or 64 player map) etc.
* Teamkilling changes – the logic of how teamkills are tracked will be changed.
* Gameplay tweaks - the way transport helicopters work will be tweaked.
* Additional scoring changes - players who destroy an enemy commander's assets will be given points.
There are many, many more fixes that will be included in the patch but we’re looking forward to everyone moving to 1.03 to get the best BF2 experience out there on a level, cheat-free playing field.
We also know that there is still an issue with availability of slots on Ranked Servers. We’re all delighted that this new feature has been so popular, but we know that many of you are finding it hard to get onto a ranked server, especially at peak times. We are taking big steps and investing heavily to ensure that everyone can experience this side of BF2. New official servers have gone up in Europe and the US this week and you will see many more going up in the coming weeks. Our vision is to make sure you never have to wait to get onto a ranked server so you can enjoy the game at its best, and we will work to make that happen.
Thanks for being such fans of BF2. We’ve been listening to you and we’re determined to make BF2 the best online shooter experience out there. We hope you like the changes that are coming.

Yeah. Looks like DICE or EA doesn't know how to release source code properly when features are missing that was available from previous release.
IRL I do source code management for a financial firm. What I do is ensure that things like this doesn't happen. maybe I should send my resume in to EA.

I'm wondering how this is going to work out. Every game and I mean all of them that I've ever played 1 type of character always get the shaft big time when they try to "fix them". The rest of the fixes are going to be very welcome.

One of my buddies is a damn good programmer and he spots mishaps, errors and anything that should or shouldn't be in the code...It's funny watching him look through say website code and out of nowhere he starts laughing, I'm looking at what he thinks is funny and I'm like "WTF MATE!"
So ya they still didn't cover the allies as enemies...do they have a plan to use that in the near future or what :crazy:

I've learned to use this to my advantage. When I get the bug and my teammates see me as red. I grab a hummer/buggy and drive right into the heart of enemy base. They all see me as friendly. So they ignore me and run past me. Then I shoot them in the back. Last time I got about 10 kills before they figured out what was going on.
Why stand around like a doof around your base and get repeatedly TK? Go out and use this bug to your advantage.

Yeah unless you are on the shooting end... :upyours: -18 or something like that last night, and it is really screwed up, cause I was MEC, and two guys (RED) drove in, in a Hum Vee, got out and headed toward the MEC transport Chopper, I was like, like hell you guys are stealing are chopper, two kills two tks two punishes, I was furious... BLAAHHH

I don't know if you guys played TFC but my favorite class was either soldier or spy, I figure in this game if your a spec ops you can stand over a dead enemy and take his "kit" meaning his whole uniform..but your allies would see you as blue and your eneimes wouldn't see you as any color...oh and you'd be able to feign death :hehehe: ...damn....I want this now :thumbsup:
But you make a good point WiHadmin, if you can get out of your base alive that is.. :D

TFC was where it all began for me. And yeah, spy pwn'd. I <3'd knifing HWGuys and Snipers in the back :D

I finally get points for blowing up the enemys arty. I thought that was the stupidest thing that that didnt give points and now they are agnologing it. YAYAYAYA.

Thaqt is kewl, you will see arty down alot more now, which will also benefit the engineers who actually help repair!

But why can't they ever release "all" of the changes...my customers would fly off the handle if I "stealth nerfed" there RAID controller...

I swear I've seen you before in tfc..but I can't remember where or when...gah..but I know you rocked the soldier class...anyways
Spec-ops getting points for blowing up assets is awesome....I don't know how many times i've busted my rump trying and succeeding to blow up arty, uav and radars...and only getting the satisfaction of making the enemy commander blind of all things :D but now we get points for it neato.

My source tells me that what they meant by that was that they are going to inprove the MEC transport chopper's gun, to be more in line with the black hawk, not gimp the BH

Some of these are things I have desperately wanted. For instance- why would you EVER be spec ops on a ranked server? Their gun is weak and not as accurate as you'd think with an aimpoint scope on it, they can't really throw the C4, etc. You don't earn any points for detroying arty and stuff. But on some maps your team gets absolutely sodomized if you don't take out the enemy arty.

Hehe... I can score top of a server consistently as spec-ops. The gun is over powered (close and far range) and the C4 is uber.

I'd disagree about the spec-ops gun, but I don't wanna thread hijack ;)
It's looking like the 1.03 patch might deliver the game that EA should have delivered in the first place. A game like this should have had thousands of hours of playtesting- you're telling me nobody in Q&A ever said, "Gee whiz, how come blowing up enemy vehicles doesn't give me points even though it saves friendly lives!"?

I hope thats not the only change. Becouse as it stands its not really a transport at all but rather a flying tank. They should add fast roping or something, but I dont really dig on chasing flags and choppers all over. I know there will be some mods more centered around tactics though so I look forward to those.
But I really dont know why people say I want the chopper nerfed when I think you should need to be on the ground to cap. Not saying you said that but you used the word "gimp". It would add to game play and tactics. People act like the chopper is some chariot of teamwork and its just not. The only person who needs skill is the pilot. Face it you can cap in seconds even with dozens of infantry in the near by area and fly off only to keep going. Not really securing anything at all. I am for more pitched battles and tactics then the randomness of keeping up with capture points.

A join and retry option would be great. I love being able to do that in CS:S; lets me get up and make some food or something while I wait to join.

They should give a class the ability to hang out of the helicopter on a rope/hook and cap the flag. Therefore the person is dangling in midair and is much more vulnerable to enemy fire. Yea, im :crazy:
Anyway, looking much forward to this patch. Although im afraid of the helicopter changes, I just started playing helicopter-medic-gunner last night and it was a ton of fun.

ya I dont blame you. hell I have spent a lot of time in the chopper with you phenix. But I do always feel guilty, especially as the gunner and I am a medic. I once had like 11 healing points thrown in on top of everythings else and never took my medic pack out once.

ya that would be awsome. Instead of having a spot cleared for me I just wait and keep trying to get in. If it takes 5 minutes that would be a long time to wait, ususally only takes a few minutes.

If they every offer support for Kali, All Seeing Eye, or Gamespy Arcade... then that feature could be used. I think adding support for third party game browsers is already planned and would be an easier feature to add for them. Two birds with one stone; let's hope it arrives in August.
