View Full Version : The Art of the Base Rush from long ago..

Was thinking about this the other day. In the earlier days of CoH, Kegg, Murdock, and I had the base rush down to a science. At least with the germans we did. We'd usually start planning it while still sitting the lobby eying our opponents over. If they looked like goobers, the base rush was already in progress.

A halftrack loaded with double shreck grenadiers and pio with flame. Once loaded they'd board the halftrack and set sail for pwn. Just to make sure that the base rush worked, right before the halftrack crossed into American territory we'd upgrade it with flames. The troops would still be inside for the ride until the upgrade was complete. Only then would they be dumped out. If timed correctly, it would happen once inside the initial machine gun nests that guard a base.

So you're on the american team and it really isnt that far into the game. You think your base is pretty safe from armor then 2 halftracks with double shreck and flame start to decimate your base. Those shreck troops would just trash a building in no time and you had a flame halftrack to whoop anyone who came out of them.

I should note that this usually occurred early in the game so there really wasnt much AT for the US. There was enough to stop something like this (So please dont say we cheated) but not if it was a surprise. They'd have to get back in their base before the damage was done. All we'd need was a building or two destroyed to pretty much guarantee a win.

We could finish a round in 10mins if it went well. :minigun:

Good times... Just wish I had some videos of it.

Nice thing was when we were US and totally saw a base rush coming on us. I forget the map it was but the Axis hosts had high resources on and that is usually what we liked to do a quick baserush. We all looked out for the halftrack to make a run, and it did.. As soon as it was spotted every troop we had retreated into base to defend and setup against the tactic we knew so well. Muhahaha! Victory (Sun Tzu style) and a rematch with the guys. Nice peeps if I remember correctly.

Hehe.. We got our dicks handed to us for about 3 months straight before we could start pulling of games like that or win a game for that matter. Kegg just wouldnt give up on the game.

Was just thinking about he good old days (when I could actually play regularly).

Try and do a base rush in the current patch as Ze Germans.
Unless you have say vet 2-3 inf, and have a firestorm and a few goliaths.Or say vet 2 flamers, say 3-4 of em its usually epic fail.
Its the Brits that make it harder methinks, button your HTs.....and then rifles kill the HTs with rifle fire.Flammenwerfers are really useless now[thats the flame HT by the way].It can still be done of course, it just takes a lot more resources to base rush as Wehrmacht.

And talking about base rushing as Allies, these guys tried it on me in ranked AT a few weeks back...http://www.gamereplays.org/companyofheroes/replays.php?game=25&tab=popular&show=details&id=92672

Was kinda funny as we wasn't expecting it at all....as you can see.

Oh hell no. They patched that out of existence along with 'Tiger Smash!!'. My 2nd favorite thing way back when. Having 2 Tiger tanks and using the munitions thing to ALWAYS have 2 on the field. I am kinda happy they patched that out though. More varied tactics.

@ Jimmy - I know.. :(

Thing about that rep that I still find funny is, 1 my StuH charging into the blob backwards, as I was shouting or saying it rather loudly, on TS what the fuck is my StuH doing?
I never made it turn around, so how it was moving backwards I dunno.

The amount of swearing when my Kreigs went down to the 17lbr was shocking even by my standards.
