Do people still play WOW? I have avoided it for almost 3 years and thought I would finally hit up one of their 10 day trials out of bordem. If people are still playing, I would enjoy company and guidance.

You're only able to get to level 20 with a trial account. I wasn't aware of that until I stopped getting exp well before the 10 day limit. It was, however, long enough to show me that diablo style multi player rpgs are much more fun to me. less find 20 of X item by killing 100+ of a certain kind of enemy one by freaking one and more killing hordes of enemies like a bad ass and interesting quests, though more limited in scale, at least in D2, who knows what D3 will bring and unfortunately I probably won't have a good enough computer to find out.

I was digging the Diablo 2 revival we had going a few months back. Can't wait for D3. All RPGs have their own way of grind though. I did my fair share of cows...

I'm semi-ashamed to admit I do play it. But mostly because a lot of my friends play and they suckered me in!

I play, on a regular basis. So does the wife. :) We play on Bonechewer, Horde side. Hit me up in game if you get on, Alchari or Shaak are my toons names.

I still play it. I play on a server called Tichondrius, it's a pvp server. I kinda dont want to play anymore just because its so addicting but at the same time im in a really good guild that is working on hard modes in Ulduar and I like the people.

Thats WoW for ya though, even when you know you should stop playing, you don't.

So what I am gathering is that, yes, people play but none of you guys are localized to a specific server. So, i should randomly choose one that people are playing on and hope for the best? Are you all on TS when you play?

The problem with a game like WoW is that there are 200 some odd US servers alone. So it is a rarity to find people that play on the same server. I'd say pick one and run with it.

Well, I am enjoying the demo while it lasts. I would never buy the game and pay fees though... Anyway, now I can say I've played WoW.

I think the best part about WoW is that once you hit the max level it turns into a whole new game

Not the mention the PvP is some of the best if not the best of mmorpgs even tho a lot of people complain about its balance

I really enjoyed my 10 day demo. I can totally tell why this is so addicting (it is made to be after all). In the end, I'm not really sure if I would say the world is more expansive than GW (once you buy all four expansions) although i could not make it everywhere in the limited time I had.

I thought the class set up for GW was more complicated and the dual class set up where you can create combo skill sets was much more in depth than the WOW skill tree. HOWEVER, the thing that made WOW a better game for me was that the skills were so much friggen cooler. GW skills are very generic and very from a stand point of something like how many ways can I set something on fire with little or no variation in how the skill looks or anything - just different numbers and casting times. In WOW, I made a Night Elf Druid. From level 1 I could turn friggin invisible. By level 5 I could turn into a friggin bear. By level 20, I was a friggin sea lion breathing underwater (which looks very sexy in this game) and a cat "prowling" and f'ing up everything I could find. Very very fun!!!

I also liked that the drop items had more variance. I know GW bases its game play on "skill" and thus leave very little variation in the armor and weapon options other than skins. The original intent behind this was to eliminate the need to farm to remain a viable player in game. But then the Dbags went and made all those Lightbringer Points and other BS quests that required you to farm just as much as any other game - all the while maintaining a very flat and boring level of variance in equipment. I like finding unique stuff and blinging out my character in unique ways. So, that I appreciated. I thought this game did a better job of that than even Oblivion. Nothing has topped Diablo II in that regard yet however...

Maybe I'm a big nerd but I thought cooking and fishing was just friggin awesome. Some might say I wasted a good portion of my demo but I spent about two hours doing fishing quests out of Auberdine and found it halarious. Then I got a recipe and cooked them bitches up!

I was really bummed it wouldn't allow me to level enough to get a mount which I consider to be the other thing that really sets this game apart from GW. That would've been tight.

I wish I would've been able to get screenies of my character before they locked out my account. My goal was to become the most bad ass level 20 in the game. I think I came pretty close but never got to learn that last enchant I wanted to get to add damage to my weapon. Oh well!!!

Anyway, no one may care about all that but I thought I would type my reaction for whatever reason. I reall would've liked to keep playing but I am enacting active and thoughtfull consumerism and refuse to pay monthly fees due to sheer ethical reasons.

I really wish the gaming community would've boycotted this game until they either dropped or at least lowered the fees. What do they say? Over 1 million online playing WOW now? All of them pay $15 dollars a month? That's a total of over $180 million dollars of revenue every year in fees alone - not even counting the money they earned by duping all of you that they promised free updating new content to into buying an expansion pack (this is like twice as bad as the L4D scandal everyone is so pissed about and no one said a word). I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost them even 1/4 of that to maintain the servers and pay their moderators/techs/admins.

I know, I know.... :deadhorse2:

Word, I think Diablo II has the most satisfying item system. The main downside to diablo II is it ins't large enough. If they had just kept adding content I probably would never have stopped playing it.

If you're looking to kill another X number of days, you should check out Dungeons and Dragons Online. By far my favorite MMORPG, since I don't count D2 as one, though I've only played the trial. Problem with the trial is that you have to do a lot of the quests in a party beyond a certain point and even if you can get one, there is usually a fair amount of waiting involved. Though it does have in-party VOIP, just like in-squad VOIP in BF2, which is nice. Its more fun if you don't play with veteran players though cause there are various traps that keep you on your toes and add to the experience and they of course know where they all are and shake their head when you blunder into one. I dont know, I just found it really fun.

It looks like there is something weird about the US trial account web page being down, but apparently the european one is still up. Follow this guide.

Lols. Opened another trial account and started a gnome mage which sucked the big one and then changed to a Orc Hunter which has been very fun.

Anyone have suggestions on which pet to get?

Someone I was talking to was saying something about "free servers." Anyone know anything about that?

There is no free servers.

There is hacked servers run by hacks.

As for the pet, it really depends on what you want them to do. There are three trees of pets now, ferocity (DPS pets, high damage), tenacity (tanking, soloing) and cunning (PVP/utility). I'd recommend checking out http://www.wow-petopia.com/ if you want to see what all is out there that you can tame.

If you're an orc, and want a good pet for soloing, I'd recommend a pig. :D

So I tamed a Crocolisk named CrocoTaco and then I decided to tame the white tiger in the barrens Euryarachee or whatever his name is and renamed it Cottonball. Goodtimes.

I have now played a Orc Hunter, a Gnome Mage, and a Night Elf Druid.

Gnome mage was stupid - probably gets better past level 20. The other two have been a blast and now I am a WOW addict. The bandaid will come off in about 5 days because I don't think I am going to start another trial account. *tear*

Cuz having more than one level 80 character is a sign of someone being a total loser right?

Honestly, I'm tired of the argument. ANY hobby can suck you in and consume all your time if you let it. And frankly, in things other than video games (especially MMOs) people embrace that, make it part of their identity. I know guys on here who have put as much time as I have in to guns, or RC cars, or hell, other video games.

Play what you want, do what you want, just don't let what you choose to enjoy destroy your social life. Its all about moderation.

I have 3 80s, by the way, a family, an active social life, a fishing habit and a good job.

Nah, I just hate seeing something I enjoy getting bashed by people that don't understand it. Using the gun example (fitting around these parts), I'm sure the 'gun-nuts' don't like it when people bash their hobby (guns kill people, etc). It's the same effective argument. It's fine if you don't like it, but it doesn't make the people that play it and enjoy it 'losers' or anything. :D

For the record, I also play Warhammer 40k and defend that just as vehemently. :D
