So last night I'm in a BlackHawk with only two of us in it. Guy didn't seem to fly real well so I jumped out. Hit my parachute key. I get to the ground and land on some sandbags at a flag. Take the flag then realize I'm STUCK on the sandbags. My parachute is still deployed. I try to move every-which-way but can't. After a while, I get the airborn ribbon even though I'm on the ground. Kids, don't try this at home :)

weird. I've always thought the airborne ribbon depends on how long you free-fall. Maybe it's how long you're hanging in the air with your chut open.

according to the link http://ubar.phusion9.com/
that Kossori posted it is 10 sec in a parachute. IF that site is correct.

I got it from doing a 500m (ish?) jump. I stole a chopper and went as high as I could and jumped. I deployed the chute the moment I left the vehicle and actually drifted out of bounds. I died before I even came close to the ground but it still gave me the badge.

I took a jet straight up until it hit the ceiling. Then the jet started to tumble back down. I ejected and free fall out of bound and watched my dead body fall for a good 10 seconds before impacting the ground below.

Nah its how long you hanging in the air with your chut open. My friends and I took a heli as high as we could and all jumped out. I thought i'd be cool and free fall until the last 100 yards or so. All 4 others opened theirs right away. They all got the Airborn medal and I didnt.
Later I did it on my own, and opened my chute right away, its definitely how long you have your chute open.

It says that you have to jump at 500m or greater. I guess it recognizes that by counting down how many seconds you are in the chute to = 500m or greater.

I took a jet as high as I could and then LEVELED OUT AND KILLED THE THROTTLE before jumping. You then have to open your parachute and glide down. HALO jumps, one of my specialties in DC, don't count for the airborne ribbon.

i was in a game with only a few people in it and i took the heli/jets up really high and para'ed out, but i didnt get it. i then went to a full server and did it over enemies and i got it. i think you may have to be in the danger zone to get it, but :dunno: , their reqs all seem weird.

I got mine by shooting down an enemy jet then ejecting after a few AA shots up the rear and parachuting to the exact location my squad leader was at and helping take the flag... It was a GOLDEN moment for me. It appeared mid flight and I was like "SWEEEEEEEEEET!" Oh and by the way, if you want to get your purple heart try throwing a granade during connection problems and have it rebound off a window sill and land right infront of you... BOOM!

if that were all it took to get a purple heart i would hve 5 of them already at least it seems like if i am going to experience lag it will be at the exact moment i try and throw something that will kill me if i do not get it right, this rule apparently applies to CSS also since it happens there also.

HAHA nice  I stink at flying jets, so you can imagine it was pretty easy for me to get this ribbon.

Its how long your shoot is open I think. Bail out of something at about 300ft and open shoot early and you will get it for sure before you hit the ground.

I agree with most of you...I belive it requires 10 sec. of "chute open" time....
I also love the HALO jump  is a great way to back door the artillary and UAV of an entrenched team...
