I tried reinstalling it today after I got a hankering for it. When it asks me to insert the second disk, it says "Installation failed, please restart from the beginning".

The discs are in perfect condition. I've tried it in my old drive (the one I used when I originally installed it), my new drive, an external drive, as ISOs, and as a manual install (per EA).

I've deleted every registry key for BF and PB and the old BF2 save files in "My Docs" (also per EA's instructions).

Same errors each time.

Please help me; I need my fix BAD. :P

P.S. I'm on XP64, but I know people with Vista 64 running it without a hitch.

Thanks. I've got nothing left to uninstall and nothing in my registry. I'm lost.

I've heard of people having the hit n miss install problems with BF2 and Vista64, mine worked flawlessly. I never heard of a real 'fix' though.

is it possiblt to copy the contents of the CD;s to a folder and install from there? maybe it is having issues with the individual media

That's what EA's recommendation for a manual install was. Instead of failing after putting in the second disk, it fails at the same point in the install without a prompt.

not sure, but is there a way to install under 32bit?

That's what I'm wondering. I tried running setup.exe under "Windows XP compatibility mode, but that didn't work and probably doesn't mimic 32bit.

has it been installed before on your computer?

Yeah, but w/ XP32. I backed up my data when I upgraded to XP64 then went through and deleted all the old BF registry and save files.

FWIW, I'm running BF2 without a hitch in XP64, although it's the EA downloader version (I had left the manual w/ CD-key behind in Tucson). One suggestion I seem to recall was to try to get a hold of the DVD version of BF2.

What's the manual install? Copying the CDs' files directly to the hard drive and installing from there? I would try that if you haven't already (don't make an ISO or image, just put each CD's contents straight into a separate folder) to see if you get any read errors...

Tried that, see a few posts up. I guess it's been such a rampant problem that EA actually published step-by-step directions to do just this. Didn't work for me so I may try the DVD. I wish "fair use" applied somehow and I could borrow yours. :P

you can use any cd or dvd to install. As long as you use your cd key. I installed my brothers version (he bought the cd version) with my DVD version...used his cd key....no probs.

did you install it in your program files (x86)? if not it must be in there, because it only runs in 32 bit mode and xp 64 bit is automaticly emulating everything in the x86 folder in 32 bit!!
if this also doesn't help try installing the DVD version like mentioned before!!

That didn't work either. :(

I'll make a trip to Best Buy in an hour or two. The only DVD version I can pick up real quick would be the series collection. Could be worse. :P

$9 for you fix....plus the entire BF collection.....not bad if you ask me.
