I have filtration equipment on this platform in the gulf. Shell sent me this slideshow showing a new module getting set on.
Amazing thing to do offshore.

all of that is awesome bob, great pics in the flickr.
dad was a well logging engineer for schlumberger. i grew up around rigs. after retirement, he did two stints in ecuador and offshore doing contract work. the pics from the offshore rigs are awesome, the big crane sling they were moved around on looked awesome. then schlumberger sent all non-essiantials back to the states after several oil employee kidnappings. he talked about the compound the oil guys lived in. armed guards, concertina wire and guard towers.. the works.
anyway, that stuff is interesting to me. good post.
also, the best snapper and grouper fishing is around base of offshore rigs... in the gulf at least.

whats funny is i never knew how mnay rigs they have in the gulf, usually i just think of one or two for some reason, but if you pull up google maps you can see tons of little (?!) spots where the rigs are in the sea... looks lkea giant peggle game *L*
