Seriously, I've found that turning off the computer after its been on for a few days makes it work better. So if your one of those people (like me) who leaves your omputer on for days. Then just turn it off for a while.
Other than that, i'd say wait for better advice.

Ya HOOOOO BF1942

You didn't say when it does this.

Which video card and pc specs please.
Did you format when you chaged hard drives (probably)

Possibly is that it is internet lag. Your ISP could have a problem or
your PC (or a different pc in the house if you have more then one) may have malware using power in the background and or using bandwidth.

Scan with your antivirus and if there is no change,
download Malwarebytes (free) http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol

Boot up your PC in safe mode and run the through (not quick) scan.

Hmm... when everything stutters like that, there's a couple of things I would check. More info would be appreciated though. Assuming this is a fresh install, are you running the bare minimum of drivers and such or have you loaded anti-viruses and such? I would temporarily disable as much of those as you can to rule out software as a cause (if you've installed them.) Is the hard drive being run constantly by the computer?

The next thing I would do is to see if the CPU is being flooded with interrupt requests. That's usually caused by bad drivers. I don't remember if the Vista Task Manager lets you monitor interrupts (XP does not), but there's a freeware tool called Process Explorer that does. It might show up as abnormal CPU usage on the regular Task Manager, though. I forget. I've been out of the game too long. FWIW, the HDMI audio driver that shipped with my 4850 caused this problem not too long ago.

If that doesn't reveal anything, I guess then you can start looking at hardware. Remove any peripheral cards, if you've got em. Make sure the motherboard heatsinks are not filled with dust or falling off.

One possibility is a bad stick of memory. Or when you replaced your hard disk, your virtual memory space might be to small. How ever Vista and XP will offer some type of warning or error if its the case. If your running Vista I'd go into Computer Management and see if there are any errors in the logs. My experience with Vista is you may need some stupid tweak or update for the OS.

Yes we need more info.

Original specs including OS.

List if parts changed in.

Drivers used on the new OS when you swapped HDs.

Thanks for your inputs, I have an Asus a8n sli derluxe. AMD 4800+ dual core. 2 gigs of crossair. I using a raptor drive. I'm using XP. I replaced my 8800 GTS with 7600 just to see if it was the video card.
I notice when I did a freash install everything was going good no freezing, until the XP intro movie came on then it started freezing again. I did this twice with the same affect.

Do you have more than one sound chip? I see that you're missing audio drivers and a RAID driver. If you have onboard sound in addition to a sound card, you need to disable one. Easiest thing to do is just to disable the onboard sound from the BIOS. I would also install the RAID driver just to rule it out as a cause. If you're connected to the controller then you definitely need to install that driver.

The RAID controller is a Silicon Image 3114R, so if you want to see the actual controller, just look for a chip with that name on it (though I think they may just print 'Sil' on their chips...?)

Edit: Isn't that it to left of the lithium battery in your picture?

Looking at your user manual, it seems all the SATA ports are connected to the 3114R. If you're using SATA for anything, I would install the driver.

Unplug all unneeded components. Just go with PSU, mobo, cpu, boot HD, video card. Sound cards and cd drives are unneeded for booting, disable integrated peripherals in the bios such as your network adapter. Try a different mouse and keyboard also. It may be hard to imagine that a mouse and keyboard has that effect, but I have seen it happen and have even experienced it with a bad keyboard. Every keystoke would cause a short pause.

Yes I am running SATA, are you saying I don't have the drivers loaded. I'm not running RIAD, do I still need the drive installed? Oh ok. I'm such a dink. Ok I have to make a disk. Only my A: drive isn't working. I think there is a way to make a disk on my C: drive but I don't know how to do it.

Sounds like somthing for my PC tech. But I always have to give him somthing like a hard drive, video card, I guess I could give him both the 7600's I know they are better then he's runnin'

You can just find the driver online, download it and install it. I haven't been able to find it yet even on asus.com as it is pretty dated if I have the correct info -- socket 939 ,
Found this tho

Storage/ RAID nForce4 Storage:
- 4 x SATA 3Gb/s
- 2 x UltraDMA 133/100/66/33
- NVRAID : RAID0, RAID1, RAID 0+1 and JBOD span cross SATA and PATA
Silicon Image 3114R RAID controller:
- 4 x Serial ATA with RAID0, 1, 0+1, and RAID5

From

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=12466

Can you confirm that is the correct mb.

Man that board was way ahead of its time back then.

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Sources/Asus_A8N-SLI_Deluxe/Images/photos/3mobo.jpg

If that is the correct board I am guessing the one of the groups of sata connectors is for RAID setup and the other for reg sata. (red and black)
If I am correct the raid sata connectors won't work correctly/at all without the RAID drivers, but the other set should work fine.

Make sure your BIOS is updated, may want to have your tech do that. Built a couple computers with it that had issues with the first two BIOS publishes from ASUS. Hell, if I'm not mistaken with the latest BIOS you might be able to run a AM2+ Phenom or Phenom II.

They make those for a socket 939? :yaya:

Thanks, I installed them but I have the same problem. I think it's time to call my tech. But I wanted to thank you all for your imputs. I'll post what the fix is after it's fixed.

Looked like the audio device was messed up too. Have you tried just ripping out the sound card and using onboard? Might try to uninstall the audio card in the device manager and get rid of the drivers and do a fresh install on that.
