free firewall software

i can't run zonealarm anymore

is there a good alternative free firewall software?

i recently just built a firewall for the home network i was getting hacked off with trying to deal with the inadequate router firewall, and the need for tighter control over my pc's ( namely the younger child and her net surfing habits/time wasting) so i took an old (very old) 1u celeron 1.3 box with 512mb's ram, and threw on untanlge, a decent enough opensource firewall it comes with a host of free apps that include webfilters protocol control antivirus, and firewalls and makes it easy to use....

even thoug hthe box is at the very low end of their specs the system runs flawlessly on my network and does not interfere with anything (that it is no supposed to)

might be a thought if you have an old box lying around... free's up some resources on your main box too

i remember people doing that with openBSD and some random network cards, fill the PCI slots of an old P3 or P2 and run bsd with some networking apps on it and you have an all in one router/firewall/server ect.

my personal fav, and what i use is m0n0wall running on a Soekris 5501. nothing better for the home or office (impo).
