Bazajaytee aka Barry Tingle, made a post on the EA UK Forums detailing some new information on the 1.50 patch.
Firstly, sorry I have been away for so long, its been a busy time. So here as per request in a number of threads here is an update to where we are with 1.50.
* Yes its still coming
* We have been working on a few things to do with DRM as old versions of Battlefield 2 use an old version of SafeDisc
* We have had a number of last minute hacks appear which we have made fixes for to help stabalise the servers.
* We have a minor issue to solve with the Chinese version of the game.
While I can't give an exact date, we are aiming to release our first Beta towards the end of April '09 as long as everything else goes well.
DRM has always been on Battlefield.
SafeDisc, SecuROM and PACE depending on which version of each game you have.
DRM doesnt have to be as punishing as it was with Spore. Battlefield doesnt do limited installs. It does protect the exe files though.
What we are looking at doing for Battlefield is removing the requirement for the DVD to be in the drive during boot up. Whether we can get this going is what we are checking. It won't limit your installs on other machines or limit how many times you can install though.
FEATURES
- Additional support for Windows Vista.
- Added Highway Tampa as a required map.
- Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl.

- AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective.
- Added checks to prevent "runway grieving".
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.
- Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model.

Two things:
1. This wasnt originally posted on April 1st was it?
2. They're just now going to fix the fucking hit detection problem!!!:angryfire:

Thats what I was wondering.
J10 is a superior fighter to the F35 and thus they're not going to balance it completely? I call BS. Probably just laziness.

if or when this patch comes out its going to suck huge donkey balls because EA has the tendency to fuck things up.

You guys do realize that this game came out nearly 4 years ago, with little support at all from EA concerning their huge fan base....
Personally, other than the mods, I'm over it.
You'd think they could have come up with more than ONE MAP since then, and highway tampa? You're kidding me.

All this patch does is fuck up all the Mods out there. Every base patch for BF2 requires all the Modding communities to update their Mods to work with it well. Hence all the Mods we enjoy are going to be fucked up if you install this patch. Remember NOT to install the patch until your favorite Mod community gives it the OK.
You have been warned.

I was thinking the same thing Kilroy.
all the mods that are running will have to be updated.

yeah they would have to, i wonder how long thats going to take or how unstable the mods are going to be now...
who knows maybe this change will be a good thing
This smells like a 4/1 joke. EA doesn't give a flying fuck about the community, they proved that by not fixing all the broken stuff in BF2. Shit, the earlier versions were worse than playing a Beta they were so unstable!
BF2's mods are fun, but the many many issues that EA never bothered fixing (many of them glaring) are why I'll never buy another of their games again.

While I don't believe there will be a patch, I still think BF2 is amazing.
The amount of mods made after it and the numbers of people still playing it.
The ability to have 64 people with 2 commanders with assets.
Squads that can have team work going on at both ends of the map.
Large maps that utilize Jets, Choppers (attack and transport), tanks, apcs and other
vehicle transport.
To have this all happen at once with 64 real life people from all over the country and sometimes the world.
BF2 is not perfect but it is amazing.
A good topic for a thread (that I never expect to see) is
"The Perfectly programed 64 person multiplayer FPS game"

^^How to switch back and forth and have 2 versions from DICE. Of course try at your own risk, if you screw something up it's your own fault!
