And a storm system ran over his town. 60 homes destroyed and 12 people hurt. I called his cell at 10:30 this morning when I heard about it on the radio. No answer

At 11:00 I called his home phone and after 12 rings and still no answer, I start to worry.

11:30 I remembered during a hurricane, only text messages get through and it worked. He and family are fine, but no electricity for three days he was told. I replied that we could talk about it tonight on TS. He hasn't lost his dirty mouth or his sense of humor.

This is an excellent example of why having a disaster prep kit is a must for everyone. When Bites got off TS with us at 11:30, he had no reason to believe that the next time he woke up, it would be because of the alarm clock. Not a tornado destroying half the town.

Stock up that kit! You really do never know when you'll need it.

Bite is a lucky man. How close did the damage come to his house?

Ok I need a new truck preferably F-150 quad Lariat edition.......No every thing is good we had no idea an tornado had come through until I got to work. Which we had no power and as of 9 pm still none. Ours came back on about 7 pm. Our work is on a different power company and their substation was wiped out. So it starts again tonight and tornado watches and warnings are already be announced. As IB stated we were prepared due to Katrina we learned our lesson. Coleman stove came in handy. You get spoiled to a Bunn coffee maker and when you loose power you don't have it. Couldn't wait to get home. Making manual coffee the old way shows me just how spoiled I am...lol.. but it works I got the damn cup of coffee.

Sounds like a french press and some vacuum stored ground coffee should go into the kit also

I had instant coffee in mine. But to be honest, one of the reasons I quit drinking caffeine was that it's a diuretic, so it's a waste of water from your kit.

Yeah, your right. But I think the fast kick I get from it in the morning or late at night are worth the trade off. Plus that's why I have a gun. Others have water

Great news storm coming again tonight. According to FEMA worse than Wednesday nights. Unfortunately the same path as well. Guess it's time to batten down the house.

True, the energy burst can be a good thing, even if it is short-term and leaves you drained at the end. But the good thing about going in without caffeine addiction means you're not acclimated, and you get as much or more kick for less. Also, you don't need it to function. I really disliked that I'd get headaches for not drinking enough caffeine or not drinking it soon enough in the day.

Thanks guys. The storm that passed through last night actually missed us. Even though we had the news ahead of time it was still a restless night. But I'll make up for that over the weekend with now clear sky's and a breezy chill in the air. Just glad it's over. Over the past 16 years that we have lived here we've lived in three different towns that are in 2 counties all along Hwy 49. All within 9 miles of each other. All have been hit by a tornado over the past years. Makes me wonder if we're in a tornado alley as well. But I guess it's better than living 30 minutes from the coast and being majorly affected by a hurricane where I lived 31 years of my life. Oh well it's either one or the other I guess.

Got a few pics today while riding around looking at the damage. Sorry the pic quality is not that great took them with the wife's cell. Plus getting her to slow down to take them was also a problem....:smack:

1st one was where it touched down. 2nd was the 1st point of impact on a church. Notice nothing left standing except the baptistry (sp). 3rd was a random pic and 4th. 5th and 6th was where my boss use to leave. That was just some of it. The damage covered over a 2 or 3 mile stretch.

I saw that church on the national news. Or what used to be a church.

Funny how the night of real probable danger you slept like a baby and on the night of possible danger you barely sleep. Life is funny sometimes. Not funny haha but funny strange. :hehehe:

Glad to hear you and family are ok.
