I'm not sure if this belongs here, or in the Tech Talk forum, but here goes.

The volume control on my old RCA mp3 player broke last week and I have been going crazy in the gym listening to their music. I have decided to get a new mp3 player this weekend, but I'm not sure what to get.

Right now I'm leaning towards either the RCA Lyra 1075 (the old red one that looks like the 1070) or the RIO Carbon, but I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions.

I need something that can hold at least 512 mb (SD/MMC card included) and has an armband accessory (either bundled, or sold separately).

P.S. I am boycotting the IPOD.

If you're looking for something like an ipod, only better, check out the creative "zen". It's pretty good from what I hear, and you can use it for other things besides music too. Otherwise, if you're just looking for a straight up mini mp3 player, I think iRiver has some good ones.

ipod shuffles aren't too expensive. you can get them in 512 and 1 gig. Those are flash based so you don't worry about the hd failing because of movements. They're also cheaper if you're a student. :)

I ended up picking a 30gig ipod for $300 at the computer store on campus. Cost me $300 which wasn't bad considering the screen is also color.

And it does help a lot when working out if you've got no one to talk to. :) I loathed biking since I was doing it by myself for a while.

Couldn't be happier with my Ipod 20G...single best investment I made all last year. I have it hooked into my car, I listen to it at work, and I listen to it while working out (armband), or while riding my bike. I also listen while going to bed sometimes. I considered other brands, but the Ipod is the caddy of mp3 players...even though I hate apple's and mac's. :hump:

I'll agree with you, Bonez, the ipod is definitley a symbol at this point. But I've never been happier with an mp3 player. It's the easiest to use, sounds the best (that's not really an issue these days, but it used to be), and is the smallest.

If you buy it new, yeah you're getting screwed. However, check out eBay. I got my 40gb ipod for $230 when they cost about.... was it $400 or $500? I can't remember and they don't sell the 40gb model anymore.

I've played with my friend's Zen, not too impressed. Ask some friends, check out computer stores.

If you buy it new, yeah you're getting screwed. However, check out eBay.last time i checked, the IPod was #1 most stolen electronic(next is like the psp, and the addons for the ipod)

so getting it off Ebay your very likely to get a "hot" player.

Well good point. I could sit here and defend the seller all I want, but the internet is what it is, and the same goes for eBay.

I have no direct knowledge of what I have bought as being stolen. The seller and I are both bound to the same policies that as eBay users we have agreed to; if they choose to violate these rules, I have no control over that. I would feel bad if I had/have bought someone's stolen ipod, would never had bought an item had I known it was stolen, and most likely even return the item to it's rightful owner if I found out it was stolen. I'm not out to steal, that's for sure; I have 0 qualms about used products and am very interested in saving some money while going to school.

"Hot" products on ebay are definitely an issue, but it's just a part of that type of eCommerce. Sorry for hijacking.
