There's a bunch of freeware apps that'll let you stack images. A lot of amateur astronomers use that kind of software. Here's one example:

Edit: Hang on, what software are you using? Those stack formats look like something that would be created by professional software. That's going to be harder to find.

is the xml one actually xml? in that case should you not be able to create a plain xml file with the image names in it..just a thought...

anyway try this wiki page

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Stacking_Software

it mentions the gimp thoguh not sure how easy it is to do it in there

i'm using a program called InCell Investigator. It is interfaced with high resolution camera used to image structures within cells.

there's a feature that will quantify the ratio of certain proteins between nucleus and cytoplasm side. i need to use this! however, the fluorescence images i took were taken from some other microscope.

i want to import these images, but it seems this software will only open those 4 file extensions of stack format (the images taken with this software creates TIFF files and a stack file listing those TIFF files it seems). i looked into one of the xml files, it appears to organize/order the images within a folder (so it appears the analysis of images is directed by the stack file). the format of the xml looks like standard xml file, tho it's complicated enough that i don't think i can manually create one

that registax program doesn't seem to read the tiff files i have

the wiki page, i'll have to go thru it and see which one will open the tiff files i have and make a stack from them

thanks guys
