So I recently decided to burn my CD's to MP3's.
I started to use my Nero StartSmart that came with the CD/DVD drive i bought for the new computer. I was able to burn 1 CD to the computer, but since then, I have not been able to convert the files to MP3 and burn them, it lets me copy them as .wave, or convert them to MP4, but not MP3.
Does anyone know enough about nero to explain to me why, or can anyone recommend a free converter that can convert to MP3 AND retrieve the artist and title of the songs from an online database?

chances are the mp3 plugin for nero requires registering ( and paying for) for the most part i use windows media player and rip to WMA lossless
any 3rd party mp3 stuff i need i use the lame enc because i usually only make mp3's from audacity when i am recording songs in realtime
lame is free

so if Lame is the encoder, can I put that in the nero folder to make it work?

hmm not sure if nero allows a 3rd party encoder to work, i still thenk your bst bet is windows media player since it does the mp3 stuff for free, and should be able to grab al lthe cd/track names from the internets before conversion....

I'll throw in another vote for Media Player.
There are a few others, but you already have that installed and it's free.

i appretiate everyone's input, guy at work gave me a copy of audiograbber, and it is working great, burns a cd, spits out the disk and starts new one with only 2 button pushes for each cd. works good while i am working on other projects.

Hell yes.. Audiograbber FTW!!!
It's fast, easy, labels with ID3 tags, and doesn't limit your bitrate.
LOVE IT.
