sooo i just built my new computer...and my cousin is givin me money to make him one....should i go wit AMD or INTEL??? i made an intel system for myself based on a prescott 3.2 OC to 3.8....i was thinkin of maybe doin an AMD for him based on a 2.4 and maybe OC it to like 2.7ish??? what does everyone think, is the intel or amd faster/better for gaming...if you have any first hand experience let me know especially if you have noticed any benchmarks that are clearly distinguishable...thanx

AMD = more bang for buck.

I built a computer using an AMD chip and I was extremely happy with the results. I also own a computer from Dell that has an Intel chip, also I am happy with that one. I would say buy an AMD if money is an issue, if not then you could spend the extra money for the name. As far as differences in performance, I could never notice any.

i get so confused bc like intel a good chip to buy is like a 3.2 or 3.4 then OC..but wit amd its like 2.4 or 2.6 li get confused with that big difference even though they are quite even...

Go AMD... cheaper and better (in my experiences). I was on Intel for years and then last upgrade (about a year ago) I decided to go with AMD and am so glad I did... so much cheaper and performs great.
About the actual speeds... with AMD they have "less" Ghz/Mhz... but an AMD 3200 is pretty much the same as an intel 3.2 Ghz... despite the 3200 being actually clocked at 2.1 (or 2.2.. I forget what it is).

What AMD does is:
"3500+" is equal to a 3.5 GHz Intel. (If I remember correctly)
So, basically, I would get an AMD. I find they out perform an intel.
Prolly get a 2.6 OC to 2.8 (If you have the money)
"The only good intel is an AMD". Go with the AMD.
How does that work? Does it process better but not necessarily faster? I know that all the hardcore computer enthusiasts I know prefer AMD systems for their gaming rigs, but I never understood why.
learn me some cmputer skooling?

Yah supposedly the AMD chips run at a slower clock speed but they process things in a much more efficent way so a 3000+ is comparable to a 3ghz P4 while only running at 2.1ghz. I am using AMD and in my new PC I am building will be AMD based.

Heat, where'd you buy your parts from?
From where I look (newegg)
That mobo is ~150
Video card ~250
Processor ~300
I'm curious. Because i'm looking to upgrade to PCI-e.

APOCthe way i was explained to about how it works is
AMD uses short pipes, and INTEL uses long. shot lets to keep the MHZ low for equal proformance from a long processor with their mhz higher.
and as for AMD chips, the current gen get a huge advantage having the memory controller right on the chip instead of it being done by the north bridge of the mobo.
why not get a 3700+ s939 90nm SAN DIEGO(1mb l2, 2.2ghz)
they seem to be able to get really high on air
"It does 270x10 on stock volts, and 254x11 on 1.55v on air (zalman CNPS 7000b-cu)." from one of the ones i've seen.(2.7ghz, and 2.79) and the averages that i've seen is the baseline overclock for them is 2.8ghz(+600mhz) but that might be on secondary cooling and some voltage ajustments.

yea heat where u get all that for 750???
and im thinkin about goin amd bc ive never done it b4 and would be interested to do the EXACT computer as mine then compare benchmarks...but that wont be for like another month...
