I know it's against the Rules for the WiH Forums to post on Politics. However I need to post this so that maybe one of you guys will be reminded or pushed to vote on this historic day.

I request please Lock this Thread so it doesn't get out of control.
I will take my punishment now.

VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th - VOTE! TUES. NOV 4th

Today is Tuesday, November 4th 2008. This is Election Day!

Regardless on your stances, on your traditional party or your views; Regardless of your candidate, your values or what you feel is right and wrong; I feel it is the right and privilege of all American citizens to have a choice in who is elected to positions in their government. For the last 22 months we have seen the longest running and most expensive Presidential Election start and come to a close. Today will be the results of all those campaigns we have been hearing about for what seems forever. Children have been conceived, born and may even be starting to say things during this time we have watched these candidates fight for their goals. So please, go out and VOTE. Find out which polls are yours, go to them, wait in those lines and casts your votes for whomever you choose. Please Vote.

Now I would just like to remind people of a few things before they go out and vote:

Find your Polling Location.

Double check your local polling locations based upon your permanent address. Check your polling location's time and realize there is going to be a line in high population areas. Go before the polls open if possible so you can have the smallest wait possible I would guess. Remember to bring your Voter Registration Card, State legal Picture ID or US Passport.

To find your polling location visit this link:
www.maps.google.com/vote (http://maps.google.com/maps/mpl?moduleurl=http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/mapplets/elections/2008/us-voter-info/us-voter-info.xml)
Simply enter your address into the left side there and it will show you your polling location. Easy and simple. Here is a website where I found this and a little bit about it.
http://www.joyengine.com/politics/wwwmapsgooglecomvote/

To those that live in states that didn't have early voting I sympathize for your plight and hope the weather is decent where you live on election day. Although I also urge for you to write your congressman and ask that Early Voting be implemented and talked about in the state congress. It enough people do that, maybe your great state will also be able to have early voting next time around which has got to be better than everyone showing up on a single day.

Getting Ready for going to the Polls

On Election Day, if you can afford to or are allowed to go to work late, I would suggest voting in the morning as the lines should be not as bad then. Lines will be at their absolute worst condition after 5pm till when the polls end.

I've been scanning articles from many different locations across the nation talking about early voting which will probably be the same on Election Day. Not every state is having issues but some are having severe issues. Florida for example has some lines ranging from 2 hour to 6 hour waits. I suppose the variation may be time of day or location dependent.

- It may be useful to bring a camping chair though I don't know if it will help if you have to move constantly. The lines may take 4 hours but if it's because it's very very long then technically you will be moving at a relatively stable rate in an accordion effect way. Maybe one of those hiking or walking sticks (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31mURCAvCDL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
) that has that part that comes out to form a chair.

- If you are going to vote during lunch I would expect that you will have to probably stay longer than you anticipated so bring something you can eat in line.

- Make sure your mp3 player or IPod or PSP/GBA/Kindle is charged and ready to go because if the lines are long at least you will have something to do.

- Bring a bottle of water and something to read. Again something to do in line. Oh and go to the bathroom before heading out to vote, just in case. Pretend it's the pre-game release of Starcraft 2.

- Dress appropriately. Last thing you need is to be freezing in line or being rained on without rain gear. Hopefully that won't be a problem and it will be sunny and clear. Wear comfortable shoes.

- Check and double check that you have your voter registration card, a valid state license or identification card. A valid US Passport can be used as an alternate ID anywhere in the US.

For some more entertainment. One of my favorite clips from Sinfest (http://www.sinfest.net/) over the last month or so.

Uncle Sam and Liberty are two great characters. Sure it's a comic strip but it really seems to hit home for some reason. I can't help but feel that the emotions invoked with these particular strips seems to be something that a lot of people are feeling in some way and can easily relate to it.

I saw the perfect political cartoon to describe the political campaign for the last 22 months.

Well do it soon then so you can vote in the next elections. Senatorial and House races are in 2 years I believe as well as Ballot Initiatives.

yes i missed this election should be a citizen this coming spring though...
my eldest is an election judge too in her first general election

voting is one of the most important thing, if not the most important responsibility of a citizen.

there is a special place in the 7 hells, reserved for those who refuse to vote by choice.

Im not sure, but I think I could be a citizen almost immediately due to my father having lived in the united states and being an american citizen before I was born. Some Law I checked made me believe I just had to get registered at a consulate.

Would that be the case?

if your father and or mother were american citizens before you were born (especially father) then you are automatically classed as a natural born citizen regardless of where you were born you would have to get form
N-600 http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-600.pdf and fill it out, i believe you need the naturalisation papers from your father too to prove he was a citizen before you were born.

This classes you as natural born and therefore eligibleto run for president and or vice president! (lucky bastard!)

okay sorry for off topic

vote early and vote often!

the side note of this is still unusual for me coming from the UK we use a paper ballot wit ha box which you mark an X in with a pen, all the votes are counted by hand, any extreaneous marks outside the designated box(s) automatically renders the vote null.

To me, it seems logical to do it that way, then you get no question about chads electronic fraud, BSODs etc at the voting booth. i am looking forward to my first vote out here
