Around 500 for the first rank and 1000 for the second and weapon unlock.

It took me 4 days to get updated to Lance Corporal when I had the points the entire time. When I finally got in game one day and got the promotion... it promoted me 6 times within the span of 15 minutes to Lance Corporal. Don't expect it to make a lot of sense and stuff... their system is terribly designed and even more terribly executed. Just go with the flow... and when it promotes you... it's a bonus. :)

promotions / medals are given after some global stats update ... on EAs end. Not sure how it works but I figure once you recieve a rank up or an award in game, that sits in a log somewhere waiting to be process by some stats server. Once that server processes the data you get finally get your rank up or medals.
