Why does PB spam "PB Server running Old Version" on some servers and how do I make it stop?


Some PB Server admins are not able or willing to fix their firewall so that their PunkBuster server can keep itself always auto-updated to the latest version. Therefore, when a new PB update comes out, their server(s) will continue running the old version until updated manually. When players join a PB Server that is running an old version, that old PB will try to 'downgrade' each player's PB to match the old version running at that server and the "PB Server running Old Version" message is generated every few seconds during this process. We encourage players to avoid servers like this as PB often does not work efficiently nor catch the latest cheats when old versions are running. If the attempts to 'downgrade' your PB fail, then you will be kicked. If you trust the server admin, you can enter "pb_security 0" into your console to allow your PB to be downgraded. If you know how to get in touch with the admin, please let him/her know of the problems caused by not having a properly functioning / auto-updating PB Server.

I know this is not the exact case but at any rate i have a newer version of PB than the server has

this morning or rather yesterday afternoon if anyone's actually counting i only had like 20 mins to play so i got on and picked a random server, but when i saw it was on dalian plant i canceled, but then NO servers came up. then i figured i'd jump on wih, but it wasnt showing up either so i realized i had the "same version only" filter and realized that that may be the problem. sure enough i took it off and wih appeared, but it was in red(although im not sure why because later that night i couldnt get on because i had installed the patch and wih DIDNT). it wouldnt let me join via browser so i joined via ip address. it let me on, but it spammed that warning over and over for a good couple mins then booted me (for 0 mins). frustrated as all hell i had to leave with out my battlefield fix. how did i fix it? hmm well i downloaded the patch and after wih got their lazy bums up and upgraded the server i could get in and never saw that error again. so to summarize i had that problem, but havent a clue how i fixed it so... :dunno:
