Wow! This version of the server have a nasty memory leak. The server is consuming 12kb/sec in memory even when it's sitting there idling empty. Over the course of 14 hours, it consumed 385MB of RAM doing nothing! The Demo server was cruising along with only 172MB of RAM when full.
How ironic is this? The demo server is a lot more stable than the retail server code.

I only saw this with this latest server version. I'll keep an eye on it.

From our Ranked server provider...
TREMENDOUS MEMORY LEAK: 1.01 Server
All operators are reporting a tremendous memory leak with 1.01 server. We have just completed our patches, but presumably we'll observe this as well.
EA Says:
"Nothing like this occured in test very limited server changes in this patch"
But who knows .. does that mean they didn't see it in their 1v1 server with The Swedish Chef vs. Some Dude?
Many providers are rebooting every 2 hours.
We'll update.

Welcome to Online Games.
In EQ2 one time(during beta) they fixed an ability my wizard had so it would properly work. The fix - crashed the entire zone I was in whenever i used the ability. I told an ingame QA about it, he didn't believe, so I went to his zone and crashed it :).
Note the patch for the patch came out very quickly.

Update from EA.
Status
1 - We have been able to see it a rack machine provided by a trusted partner.
2 - We have been able to recreate it in an EA racked machine. I have set DICE up with access to this machine. This is happening and repeatable on all versions of the servers.
3 - DICE's CEO is calling key members of the team in from vacation to fix the problem.
We wil have a timetable by noon Friday this gives DICE time to evaluate the fix.

Jesus EA can't do a goddamn thing right can they? I don't know much about code, but I've seen this level of incompetence in any game I've ever bought over the last like 7 or 8 years, get it together my god, we already paid you $50, and you can't give us a product that f-ing works right. I think I now have to send an angry email to those fuckers. :upyours: EA :upyours:

You would think that something that is this noticeable wouldn't have slipped through the testing since it happens so quickly. Crimeny, if *I* wrote code like this in my old job I would have never heard the end of it. That being said, I DID write a report one time (I used to have to write finacial software) that was blank if nothing changed :)
Anyway, I've also noticed the client on my machine seems to take up more and more memory the longer I play the game as well.

Bad news from EA
OK folks
The patch is a wash out. We are going to recommend to everyone that they roll back to 2442
Please let me know if you need older versions of 2442.
EA is posting community message now.
Dice will continue to look at fixes to both Linux and windows.
I wish I had better news.
John
It is unclear if clients have to be re-installed or if they'll put out a roll back patch. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
WTF EA?!?!?!??!?!!?!!?

Our provider is giving us a choice to stay at 1.01 and have 4 server reboots at :
0900AM CDT
1500PM CDT
2100PM CDT
0300AM CDT
or roll back to 1.0 which means all the clients have to also go back to 1.0 by reinstalling.
I'm going to recommend that we stay at 1.01 and deal with the reboots until EA releases 1.02. This means that if you want to play on War is Hell Ranked #1, you will need to keep your client at 1.01. It will also mean you can't play on other 1.0 servers.
