Here's a note from a DICE developer on the reason why the servers are lagging so bad.


"I thought I should give an update on what we know about this bug.

We have been working hard with this here and have found several bugs in
the networking code that could explain things. Some of the fixes were
included in the demo, which is a later build than the one we sent out to
production (2446.12 > 2442). This explains why people haven't seen the
issue as much there. Other fixes was done after 2446, and will be
included in the patch we will release "soon".

It wasn't really an issue with the speed of the internet-connection or
the speed of the machine running the server. It was rather how the
server prioritized which objects it should send updates about to which
clients. If the client doesn't receive object-updates it will try to
update their position based on the latest information it has (basic
interpolation). This makes objects behave weird when updates are not
frequent enough.

Hopefully we have fixed all issues concerning this. If not we should at
least have made things a lot better. I guess we'll see the truth of it
when we release the patch :)

Lets hope so, im tired of flying into trees when I do my low altitude attack cobra manuevers and having people say I suck at flying because of lag. ( I have a joystick and am a Aviation enthusiast, i know how to fly :thumbsup: )

This explaination makes sense b/c we're seeing that on 64-players, the server lag pretty bad. Lots of connection problems. Then on 48-players, the connection problems were less. I'll bet if we run 32-players, it won't be an issue.

I'll bet if we run 32-players, it won't be an issue.well from splunking on ranked, 64 and 16player maps are buggered(that's right, 16 player map LAGS) and it seems like the uber is having the map at 32 peeps and the server anywhere between 20 - 46

Just got done playing first map, lap is gone. Works great

Just to follow up on this issue. It turned out that the machine our server was on had a faulty memory module. Once replaced the 48-player server ran very smooth.

Sometime early Mon morning, we're going to bump it back up to 64 to see what happens.
