Well, today my internet service is being moved to my new house, so unfortunatly I will be offline for a few days at the least. However, SBC is still unable to tell me whether or not I can get DSL at this new location, so If I can't, then I bid you a fond farewell, because most likely I will be gone for quite some time, and even if I do get service in some other form, it will be far to slow, or laggy to play games on.

Bye!

That's why you always go with cable.... SBC has around a 3 week turn around after you get the phone line itself on (because of all the paperwork and shifting to different departments), Cable is same day as the cable is turned on. Much less wait.

Hey, I was told by my IT guys yesterday that satellite high speed is real and nation wide.

I was worried cause I'm planning on getting 10 acres in the country and afraid I wouldn't be up to snuff either, but our network tech guy has it and says it's awesome.

Satellite is awesome for downloads, and general net surfing, but for games I hear it is laggy as all hell.

Just found out, DSL won't be available, A big :upyours: :upyours: :upyours: to SBC, cause they "can't" extend their service 2000 feet farther.

BOB, the only real alternative for an internet connection in the boonies (If you want to be able to game) is ISDN.

www.dslreports.com has a great ISDN section. You/he can look into it

I guess this guy plays WoW. Is it not very demanding of bandwidth? I've never seen it.

Well... if they extended their service 2000 feet for you... then somebody else would want the same treatment :\.

you misunderstand it if they are telling you you are 2000 feet from a service area that means you are physically located too far from the DSLAM. DSL service has a limit as to how far from the Central office you can be. i believe they are telling you you are 2000 feet too far from the central office i think the max distance is 14000 ft might be wrong on that could be as much as 22000ft now keep in mind that is physical wire distance not as the crow flies. this trouble is fairly common in rural areas

Yep, you need to be under 1400 feet from their office, I am around 1500 from their office, or so they say. So I am actually around 1000 feet from their office.

Right now, I am trying to track down any hope of getting ISDN, I can get it, but SBC will charge me for the line, installation, and I have to get my service out of san antonio, which is a long distance number. Still better than satellite or Dial up, but it will end up costing me more than DSL.

ask about getting a foreign exchange line or FX line(what this consists of is you have a san antonio number out of your home that you pay a monthly fee for which should be cheaper than any LD charges you would pay)

Now here is a perplexer, they told me that my service would have to come out of San Antonio, but I found a local ISP, that offeres ISDN service, they even have a local number for it.

I would say go with satellite, but the way satellite USED to work (i'm not sure if it still does) is that the downloads would be fast, but since satellites were pretty much a one way deal, all uploading was via land lines (usually dial up).

Have you tried speakeasy? It's hard to believe that you're moving somewhere that has absolutely no options for connections > dial up

My second option is ISDN, I hope I can get that, because I hear it is pretty good for games.

Problem is, that I still probably wont get to play BF2 online, because it's minimum requirments are DSL, cable or up, The fastest I can get with ISDN is 128kbps.

i think fozzybear plays bf2 using ISDN the box only says broadband underwhich ISDN loosely fits

welcome to the united states, big country, lots of money, self appointed leader in the broadband industry.
