ive still got my 7950gx2 and to get another would cost nearly the same price as a 9800gx2 retail...weird huh? Im gonna contact BFG to see if my 20-month-old card is valid for their step-up program =/

At the moment, I'd rather build an HTPC....

i would rather getanother 8800gt and overclock it and sli it to get a fairly close second okay memory bandwidth is lacking, but seriously will i get $600 of extra performance? or even if i sold the 8800 for $150 would i get $400 of performance gain?
price per performance this is not really worth it.... yet.....
though i would be interested in seeing what 2 of these do on an sli rig... just for yucks ( oh and a 2 kw power supply *L* )

As with all new hardware the price point is only for those that want the best and greatest right now. More normal customers that don't like to throw money away always wait till the price points come down a bit or we go with the 2nd greatest thing. Which is still the 8800 GTS 512mb at this time.

I have an 8600 GTS 512
Should I upgrade to the 8800gts 512..
Is it going to give me $180.00 extra in performance?

Depending on the rest of your computer and depending on the age of the game you are playing and also depending on how much you value video performance...
Yes.
