No clue where you read that but if I could play it on an ATI 9550 and 512 MB of RAM and a AMD Athlon 2000+ your PC will run this fine. I had no problems running it on low. Now that I have a 9800 Pro and 1.5 GB of RAM I run it flawless on Mid.
So to sum it up - yes this will work on your PC.
You can be under the min specifications and still play this game just fine. Go buy it.

if you can run BC on high settings, sure as hell you can play COD4 :D

My AMD 3000 XP (Not 64bit) CPU can run it. Using a x850 xt I'm getting well over 50 FPS. Frame rates will go bad after a few hours of play but it's quite good most of the time.
Agent, where did you read that? :hehehe:

My POS comp that buzzes as long as it's turned on can run it. I have some occasional graphics lag when there's a LOT of stuff going on (like an airstrike combined with a helicopter, with C4 and grenades going off around you, and there're bullets whizzing through the air in every which direction). But, that doesn't happen for me that often.

CoD4 has a fairly low requirements for gaming. As well as it runs, I'm very surprised that it works fine on many older and lower end computers. They must have optimized everything in the graphics engine.
