I pray that the server remains good *(connection wise)* once it becomes ranked...

Are you still going to have 2 servers? or just one ranked?

DinkyPoopStick

If you are going to run a ranked server i wanna make 2 suggestions:

1) on some maps use a map size smaller then the server size.
meaning like that damn map.... if you have a 32 player server try it with 32 people on a 16 person map.. that would be real cool for infantry purposes :ak:

2) i know you are not a fan of 2 rounds per map, because you may loose people when the map repeats, but i really donp;t think that will be a problem with a ranked server and it would really make life happier with 1/2 the time loading :yaya:

Agreed and Agreed, I hate those huge ass ring around the rosey maps like Dam, Dragon Valley, etc.

The Dam map on 64 players is just too damn big, imo.

i have talked to crotch about .......... hahaha i just thought about that..... the poopstick talked to crotch :LolLolLolLol: anyway i have talk to crotch (hehe) about 2 rounds and he is not a huge fan because of people droping, but i really don;t think that will be a problem at all now, remember we played that 3 round server a couple nights ago meltdown, and it was always full.

However Dink, if you remember the tickets were a little smaller on that server too. Avg. round took 20-30 minutes, as opposed to the 45 min to an hour most maps on WiH takes. Maybe setting the tickets back down to 100% rather than 150% would fix that. I do kind of like the multi-round idea though for the simple reason that when we switch maps I'm sitting there at the loading screen, goes by super fast, hits Verifying Client Data and sits there for like 2-4 minutes, by the time I get in all of the vehicles are gone or camped and half if not all the flags are capped for one side or the other. At least with say 2 rounds it would allow both teams to at least go into one round with all of their players available to them immediatly at the outset rather than having to wait for half of them to load in, and give you a true feel as to which team is actually better.

On my 1GB Ram, 7200RPM HD desktop, map loads take about 1 minute. You play for 40 minutes and endure 1 minute of maploading. I think that's pretty damn good.

If the maploads are 5 minutes and then every 10 minutes, it reloads, then it's an issue but a ratio of 40min:1min of maploading is acceptable in my book.

Doesn't take long at all on my machine to load a map, it's the verifying client data which is communicating with the server, or PB, or EA, or whomever on the net that takes forever, and generally whenever I get on the map still about 1/2 the side is still loading in.

=HR=Gumby!!!
06-29-2005, 11:38 AM
That's the sme problem I have Melt. Loading takes not time, but the verifying client data takes 3 to 4 times as long as loading did.

looks like the 2 rounds is highly debated, so i conceed on that, but i think small map size on maps like the damn would be good fun

I played the 16 player dam map with 32 players on it last night and I thought it sucked. And it sucked three rounds in a row.

I vote for map changes each round. I don't want to have to play 6 or 8 hours to get to play my favorites.

Plus you get a chance to grab a beer and, uhm, "do stuff" while it's loading.

I may be the only one, but I think we should wait for EA to patch the game (not going to hold my breath on that one though) before we do a ranked server. I mean, the game crashes all the time on me as it is; either the server or I get knocked to the desktop. Kinda screws with your score... and I think the bugs have kept people from buying the game as well.

=HR=Gumby!!!

The only time I get ctd is on ranked servers, and always at the map change. Anyother time I'm here with never a problem.

the loading sucks on my machine. and even after im done loading i have to run around in my back base for a good few mins to rid myself of the lag thus the three round ranked servers i've played on rock because for two of the three rounds im not at such a huge disadvantage in that i can actually play for the first 5 mins of a game instead of spawning and finding the enemy is already in my base and all my team mates are away in theirs.
multiple round maps rock
