CoD4 WiH Tournament?

I'm toying with the idea of running a CoD4 tournament if there's interest. I'd like to throw it out here to see what kind of reaction/interest there are.

Some initial thoughts...

5 vs. 5 (too many per team? not enough, just right?)
map types. no clue.
how to keep score. no clue.

5 v 5 is a good size. (7 on 7 I think would be better....but we would have less teams)

I would think Objective based maps for the majority of the maps. Team Deathmatch should be thrown in for at least 1 round.

Keeping score: Map winner takes all. Best 2 out of 3 maps (Mixed mode)

ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS- if you don't have level 55 & challenges, work with what you have. Sorry for your luck.

TeamSpeak/Ventrillo is allowed if there is a referee present. (no ghosting allowed) Otherwise just in-game voice/chat. Violation = instant forfeit for all matches played even if no actual ghosting accured.)

I would agree with 5v5. Other then that I'm pretty much at a loss for the other specifics. No idea what game mode would work out well. I'd be tempted to say Sabotage. Although having mixed modes would be cool, I dunno how well a mix mode tourney would work. :dunno:

Either way, I'm super jazzed about this. I think CoD4 would be the best game at this time to do one. :cheers: I'll have to think about this a bit and see if I can come with any useful info for you.

1 map Headquarters
1 map Search and Destroy

best out of two advance

Round 2 (different maps):
1 map Sabotage
1 map Headquarters
1 map Team Deathmatch

best out of two advance

Round 3 (different maps):
1 map Sabotage
1 map Headquarters
1 map Search and Destroy

in case of tie in Round 3:
1 map Team Deathmatch to decide 1st and 2nd place.

If we need more than 3 Round (hope not) then we recycle starting with Round 1.

Does kinda bring up some interesting points. How would we keep the teams fair? If we do it completely at random then there is a chance a team could be stacked. Perhaps team captains could be selected and then have a daft of sorts? :dunno: Just trying to think of some ideas. I guess we'd need to know how many people are interested before trying to decide how the teams would work out.

I was thinking along similar line LB.

Once we have a pool of all players interested. I'd pick 4 random players to be "selectors". These "selectors" will draft 1 player at a time to be on their team. The order of which "selector" will get to draft first, second, etc will be determined from a random number drawing.

In order to not make people feel like they're "l33t" or "noob", the drawing will be in private between the "selectors" and facilitated by me. Once the teams are formed, they will be announced to everyone. A large reason why I'm thinking this is that we'd like to promote the aspect of "WiH community" in the tournament. This way, it allows community members to get to know each other better as well.

The other aspect is the entry fee. We found that everyone is less likely to drop out if they made a monetary commitment. Strange but true fact. So, we'd have an entry fee per person, something like $5. They can either put up the $5 themself to be included in the pool or find a sponsor to pay their $5 for them.

Teams will have 7 players max. The matches will be 5 v 5. So each team will have 2 reserves to take place of those who couldn't make a match.

I'd like to have a tournament that can start and end within 2 days. That way, it's quick, fun and intense vs a long drawn out tournament like the previous CSS tournament.

I agree with holding the 'daft' in private to prevent inflated egos and/or hurt feelings. I see you point in having it mixing up and having people in the community get to know each other better. Sounds good to me.

I like the idea of a quick 2day event as well. Would be easy to do it over a weekend.

Hadnt really thought of an entry fee but I understand the reasoning behind it. Would surely make people more committed if they've put in some cash. Perhaps there could be a little prize for the winning team? Nothing big. Maybe just a shitty little plastic trophy or WiH thongs :yaya: Just a thought.

I like this idea, I can see it being a lot of fun. I like the idea of short and all within two days. That would keep it fun im my opinion. Also, I had an Idea of, I think the owners should be captians and they should chose teams :)
This would also keep it light on the stress and heavy on the fun.

I disagree, I WANT to know where I got shot from, helps learn approach angles, choke points, etc. That is the biggest reason why I don't play INS.

There is no reason for a killcam in a tourney. killcam is fine for regular play but a tourney is about skill, not just then learning choke points and angles.

btw- i saw gaming show on satellite and they were talking about cod tourneys...and one tourney involved all sabatoge maps with 1 weapon....one of the contests was knifes only in prone...i saw the ingame footage...was great... aton of bodies crawling slowly with knife in hand. was really funny.
