A tid bit of info from IAMfourzerotwo from IW.
http://iamfourzerotwo.com/2008/03/05/so-whats-happening-on-pc-and-ps3/
As for the PC version, Patch 1.6 will be the one that introduces the new Kill Cams and other features the console feature patches received for you guys. The work is done on that patch and it’s essentially awaiting and going through internal QA here at Infinity Ward and then Activision. The good thing about the PC version is it doesn’t require any certification so as soon as it’s finished internal QA it heads out the door to the players. I will try to get a full list of what PC Patch 1.6 includes as I believe there are a few more PC specific things in there besides just the added Kill Cams and such. Don’t forget we still have the Custom Map contest going until March 31st, if you have the PC version and want to check out all the cool custom maps everyone is making we have a running list going with all the current releases and beta maps in the works.

More from the blog...
On the PC side of things the Patch is in queue to finish internal QA for release. The Community Mapping Content has come to an end and we’ll be putting out an open call for all the maps you guys have created to be submitted as well as releasing details on the prizing and how the winning maps may be showing up. We have some awesome prizing I’m anxious to finalize and announce to you guys. I’ve been keeping tabs on the Beta / Released maps in the Mapping forums on Infinityward.com and there are some great ones.
In addition to that details are being finalized as to getting the map pack to the PC users as well. I can’t speak specifics just yet as everything is being cemented now, but it sounds like good news.
Let me know if you guys have any questions or concerns in the meantime, but it sounds like next week is going to be the most informative when it comes to what’s shaping up on the PS3 and PC side of things.

UPDATE...
Custom map contest
I wanted to keep you guys in the loop on how the Map Contest is rounding out for all the PC mappers waiting to submit their maps. We had hoped to start accepting submissions by now but regretfully (as typically happens) the legal required participants to be US only which was unacceptable for us. So we’ve been working on making it open to worldwide participants which requires quite a bit more legal / contest rule work due to the different laws and regulations in each country.Patch 1.6
As for the 1.6 patch which was going through test, we found a critical bug during QA which broke kill cams when playing with mods among other things which put a hold on it and put it back in development. We’re continuing to evaluate it and looking into releasing it when the map pack potentially hits PC. I’ll keep you updated as it progresses, but right now it won’t be coming out anytime soon while we track down this bug.

The delay in the map contest sucks, but I'm sure it will be a MUCH better contest with it being worldwide.

Sadly, many of the custom maps are made by people who have little understanding of what makes a map great..
I've played quite a few of those maps, and the only two worth mentioning are Matroska and Village, and even those are dubious at best compared to the the maps that came with the game.
So far, the maps being made cater to campers, or have little in the way of atmosphere or decoration.
I applaud the efforts of these amateur mapmaker, but I don't think that IW is going to be happy about picking any of them at the moment.
Just my thoughts.. and I hope to see a good patch come out soon!!

Meh...no "new" news other than it's not ready yet. The new mpas or the patch.
PC Patch 1.6
Last update I let you know we had to send it back to development due to a few bugs which we’re found. Regretfully not much has changed, but the team is still working on it with plans to get it out, when I get a better ETA on when you can expect it I’ll be sure to pass it along as well as details on what all it will include.
Community Mapping Contest
We’re finished taking submissions from US candidates and are about to open up submissions for UK, Spain, Italy, and France soon. We’re just now getting the approved legal back from all those territories now which will allow us to finalize it and get it up. Meanwhile we’ll be judging the maps submitted from US users over the next few weeks.

Here we go...June 5th.
FREE!!!:woot:
Great news! Heads up that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack sponsored by NVIDIA will be available worldwide for our PC players next week on June 5th!
NVIDIA is making it possible for PC players to download the map pack for Free on the PC thanks to their sponsorship. In addition, expect to see quite a few promotions popping up leading up to the launch of the map packs on the 5th and beyond. I know NVIDIA has a lot of great things planned for PC users in addition to maps becoming available.
There’s going to be some PC specific previews going up online this weekend I believe that will cover how well the maps play on the PC version as well as some contests and promotions happening all next week. I’ll be posting up details on them as they get started all this week!
The Variety Map Pack includes four new maps for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer including Broadcast, Chinatown, Killhouse, and Creek.
In addition to the map pack hitting, PC Players will be receiving the 1.6 Patch for the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that will add support for the new maps, fix a server crash exploit recently reported by the community, and a few additional features / bug fixes. I will post a full patch notes list next week.

Hopefully they fixed some of the hit detection and penetration [through materials by bullets, mind you] problems.

I hope you can shoot through those impenetrable barrels now, and have a harder time through multiple brick walls (even though I am a terrible MG spammer).

Just played one of the new maps called killzone. It is a warehouse
with lots of thin walls and brick you can shoot thru.
I am sure with this and the tubes there will be lots of whinning
on this map.
Remember do not install this untill the server(s) you play on
have installed it.
