Stumbled on it playing CS. The CS server I am an admin on changed IP addresses and it killed our crowd. So I wanted some action and saw FF-on in the name and joined. As soon as I saw no AWP or autosniper I put it in my favorites. :D

I remember when I first got counterstrike source, I was surfing through the server lists, I didn't even know that servers had communities like this one, but one day I clicked on this server, and I started to communicate with people a little, and I believe that it was Dave that asked me if I wanted to add it to my favorites, I thought "what the heck" and added it to my favorites, and sense then, this is the only server I visit.

i hadn't played CS since like 1.2 or so... i got hl2 for cs:s. i played on a few random servers with friends, but they were never very fun. i hate the awp.

i was in the search of a good place to play, as in tribes 1 i always played on the same 2 servers, always. i'm a man of habit. i sorted the list by name one day and just started scrolling. the name "war is hell" really caught my eye for some reason, so i connected. i loved the no awp (scout is my favorite gun) and the lack of general bs and racism ("you fagg!" being spammed sucks..... it just makes me angry).

in hindsight, this was a pretty good place to get schooled in CSS, but it really sucked the first few weeks. =]

Well, I found the server in the list in all seeing eye. I got low pings, so I started playing here. I used to like the maps to just have one round, I hated them when they had 3 rounds. I usually played at really early morning / late night hours, and all the one round servers didn't have anywhere close to 64 people in them.

Yup. We hosted a POE server back then. It started with about 3 or 4 of us every nite. After a while, the POE server would be full every nite. POE is fun! We like POE!

How did I find this server? I was playing BF2 one night jumping from server to server, until I ran across this one. I liked the fact that tkers were banned and how there we're people playing as a team. So I stuck around and joined the forums. WiH is the only reason I got CS:S. The rest is history in the making.

Try adding the IP through your steam client before you go into the game also make sure you have the correct filter checked. It should not be ALL, I think but like, secure or maybe non-secure. Click each and refresh your list and see which one keep WIH up. Then you should be able to access it from in game. Or just click on it in your steam panel before you start CS and it will join for you.

Bf2 brought me here. Befor wih i played on deadmeat, codeblue, and aod, all these servers pail in comparison. pluse they all had reset problems, they would team stack very heavy and get pissed off when they lost and reset the server. and i don't know about you all but losing points due to peeps not bein able to win gets old. so here i sit a reg at the great war is hell.

This is the community I was looking for and found.

Someone mentioned that there were forums after I'd been playing on WiH for two weeks or so. Per my join date, that was in late 2004... I still remember some of the old clans and regulars.

I think wih was the first cs server I ever played on. I was such a noob with computers at the time that I had my server list sorted for ones with high pings as I thought that bigger would mean better.The name war is hell stood out for some reason.

The first month I had CS:S I didn't even install it and then I started playing with a friend but was never into regular CS:S but maybe that's because my friend played on 24/7 servers.
