View Full Version : External HD problem
Ok so I bought an external hard drive enclosure (esata) and a seagate sata hd to put inside of it. I got everything all hooked up and running, Now here comes the weird part. When I look in My Computer the drive doesn't show up. I checked the device manager, the hardware removal thing in the system tray and the bios they all recognize there is a hd plugged in but still nothing in My Computer(and I did hit refresh to see if it would show up). I tried to add new hardware....nothing. I am running Vista 64 (the enclosure says its vista ready). Anyone else had a problem like this?

If the drive is not formatted, or not formatted in NTFS or FAT, it won't show up in My Computer. You can use Seagate's DiscWizard to format the drive if the hard drive is connected directly to the computer. Otherwise, go to the Start menu, right-click on Computer, go to Manage, then go to Disk Management in the list on the left. Find your external hard drive in the list, then right-click on it and select Format. You should be able to figure out the rest from there. :) HTH
Thanks gruthar got it formating now.
