View Full Version : Ragdoll Mod?

Anyone know if there is a ragdoll physics mod/tweak for COD4?

The only implementation of ragdolls in the game is after someone has been killed and the death animation has passed, they crumple (very unrealistically, mind you) down to the floor. Or when an explosion is near them they react in an equally unimpressive manner.

Anyone know of a tweak/mod that enables ragdolls like they should be? (ie. shoot a soldier, soldier dies and ragdoll physics kick in rather than animations)

Err. I always thought the death animation was pretty true to real life. People dont go flying all over when shot. Bullets dont have enough mass to cause a 150lb guy to go flying. They usually crumple up like I see in CoD. :dunno:

Back more on topic though.. I think I know what you're looking for and I'll keep an eye out for you.

yeah even though the Source Engine is completely awesome sometimes the ragdoll settings are out of control. I guess the other reason for the animations is that people don't go limp like that immediately either. The animations in COD4 are actually pretty darn good. You want to see bad animations, look at COD2.

The thing I hate is in maps like Vacant you can go into the offices and blow computer screens arcross the room and then you shoot a stack of books and they are bullet proof. Sorta lame.

Every game developer needs to take a look at the source engine and the Crysis engine and use that as a low bar standard at this point IMO. Nothing should really be going below that level of physics anymore. Although it was this choice that allowed COD4 to be more detailed with textures than HL2 and not lag to hell on the best computers like Crysis so... whatever...

To actually answer your question, I don't think a mod like this exists and I don't think the COD community at large has really had a lot of concern about it so I don't see one being made. The main mods coming out so far is one crappy zombie mod and a pretty decent Tactical Realism mod:

If someone makes this kind of mod it will probably be one of these folks.

AWE4 tac real: for some reason I can't find this... I know it is out for DL cause a lot of the TR servers are running it. My bet is that if someone does this ragdoll thing, it will be them.

COD4 is Source based? Damn...

No, Mad is just using it as an example of how engines should be built in terms of physics. COD4 is using it's own in-house engine.

As for the death animations, hey don't get me wrong I think they are pretty cool, just seeing them over and over and over again kinda irks me and makes me want full ragdoll support.

I did just chuckle a little imagining a guy getting shot by one of the chopper rockets and being flung off of the map. Quite possibly into another game even.

I suppose you are right about the repetitive nature. one of these days they'll have a true hybrid of ragdoll physics that will allow them to ragdoll but put enough restrictions on them to make it look real - weight of the body, involantary reflex up death, etc.

actually, it's a highly modified version of the Quake4 engine.

Well, those guys at Infinity Ward definitely know how to code an engine.
