Hey pe3ps
Ooook i love BF2, But i got a few problems

1. When i try to login it takes around 45 seconds and for some reason it automaticlly connects to a server....
Does anyone else have this problem??? any thoughts on how to fix this?

2. when i connect to a server, the % bar fills up in like 10 seconds BUT "loading complete, getting player data" takes almost a minute to load
and when i join, the map laggs for another minute...I dont think its soppose to be like that *shadow and lighting are both set on low*

I got:

AMD64 3400+
1GB Ram
ATI 9800 256mb

It takes me 45 seconds to load map, another 30 seconds of waiting for the join button to come up. If the map is in the middle of a game I will stutter for about 2 seconds while I synch in. I think your experencing pretty much what everyone else is.

But the thing is, when i finally join i see people a mile away and their allready capturing bases

Yeah, I have LOTS of hard drive activity and lag for about the first minute after my long load time. This is a far cry from where I had my rig tweaked for BFV, I was always the first in, with no lag, I have to fix this! When i figure it out, I will post back.

When BF2 installed itself, it made 2 icons on your desktop: 1 for bringing up BF2 and 1 that brings up BF2 and connects to a random ranked server. I suspect you are using that second icon. Just use the icon that saids "Battlefield 2" and not the "Online" one.

Yep, I'm experiencing the same thing. Also in the middle of the game (particularly the Daqing oil fields map) I will get a lot of HD activity with makes the game very choppy. I think I may need better ram or something. My set up is:

Athlon 64 2800+ w/Nforce3 MB
Nvidia 6600GT AGP 128
1GB of RAM (the generic stuff though)

Do you guys think getting a GB of corsair low latency RAM would help this problem? I have my settings on medium at 1024x768, low light and shadows, high terrain, effects and buffering. The frame rates are great when I'm playing but it seems like after a while my computer starts accessing the HD more offten and really slowing the game down :dunno: CPU temp never goes above 55 C and I have great cooling... I'm at a loss here.

I have:

athlon64 3200xp
1 gig Corsair Ram 2.5-3-3-6
fx6800 GT
120 gig maxtor w/8mb cache hard drive
audiy 2 ZS platinum sound card

my bf2 settings are:

1024x768x32 @85hz
low settings for light
dynamic light and shadows are off

AND I still get lag, not sure why though. I have optimized my services.msc and oc'ed both my processor and video card. All run within acceptable temp limits. I think that I might need another 512meg of ram for a total of 1.5gig b/c my hard drive is being accessed alot, which I am thinking is the swap file being used a lot (this also causes my hard drive to be fragmented, so I defrag often). I know that there are some tweaks out there, so here are the ones that I suggest using to start:

http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks1.htm (very good)
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=682
http://tweaks101.info/content/view/36/2/ (very good to start with, just be careful about what you disable, somethings will have an adverse affect on system looks)

Anyone get this problem where the game just crashes to desktop?
Its pissing me off.

My specs:

AMD Athlon 2700xp 2.16 Ghz
ATI RADEON 9800 Pro (all updated software)
1.0 G RAM

I got all the extra stuff disabled
But the demo was perfectly fine, there was no +1 min loading client data and there was no lag at the beginning of the game
Most of the servers have 3 rounds on every map, well only the 1st round it laggs like hell, but the other 2 rounds are all nice and smooth and there are no slow downs
theres gotta be a way to fix this

probably just the bf2 client, cause I have the same problem. The demo was alot smoother.

Thanks Drayu, I'll try some of those tweaks. I had tried some of them before from your other guide (the virtual memory stuff anyway) and it seemed to help, but I still get a lot of HDD accessing which pisses me off. The game runs smooth as butter most of the time then lags quite a bit when it accesses my hard drive. The demo ran much better for me as well, both with connection lag and with my computer.

For some reason there is one map that I can play fine but when the map ends I always crash to desktop. I keep meaning to write down the maps name but I always forget.

My specs
P4 2.4 Ghz Oc'ed to 2.54
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Oc'ed
1.5 G ram
10k RPM HD

Everything set to Medium @ 1024 X 768

I have had a few crashes to the desktop including one which wiped out all my saved custom controls. I ended up uninstalling and re-installing. Joy.

So just try to reinstall the game?
