So yah, I just got back from seeing the new RAMBO movie...
Basically, it delivered on every front. It's got relentless action from start to finish. Stallone is well, Stallone. Heads get split, chunks get taken out of soldiers with high cal rounds.. it's just a plethora of action.

Of course, there's the whole politically incorrect aspect, of which comes with most new-age action movies, but I went into the movie knowing what I wanted: bare bones, balls-to-the-goddam-wall action.

Some scenes are a little too much, like how graphically a whole village of people gets wiped out, but that sets the tone for the extinction of all the evil Burmese Soldiers. Speaking of the soldiers, what the hell do they need an army for anyways? Apparently all they do is get drunk, rape villagers and bet on which captive will lose first while running through a mine field. Needless to say, the Burmese soldiers are depicted as totally inhumane and evil beings. Guess that's what makes it so easy to watch while they get spread all over the map like exploding cherry pie.

Anyways, if you want to see a good action flick, go see RAMBO, it delivers.

PS. on a side note, some idiot parent in front of me somehow got his 11-13 year-old son into the movie. This is by far the most violent action movie I have ever seen and this kid has a front row seat. Sure, "whatever", you say, but if u saw the movie you'd agree that it's no child viewing.

BTW if you're not sure you can handle really gruesome shit in a movie, don't go see this movie :P

OH having the Marines and Army watching too made it so much fun during the slaughter...

This critic puts a political spin on his rant but he's quite hilarious. I don't think he liked it much and it sounds exactly what I thought it would be so I'll wait for video.

Complaining it's about portraying a country as the evil ones...hmmm I wonder what the first 2 movies did....oh wait...

Yeah thats just a Rambo movie, I mean come on. Look at how the James Bond films always depict the Russians.

filthy your description of the soldiers is hilarious.

Yeah, as I said, the movie is completely politically and culturally incorrect.. it's somewhat a mockery of the whole genocide happening in Burma (BTW all the newscast stuff at the beginning of the film is real footage).

I went in wanting to see action, and knowing that I'd ignore every other aspect of the movie apart from the gratuitous kills. That's why I say it delivered.
If you have unavoidable political and ethical issues with watching a movie like Black Hawk Down, Behind Enemy Lines and the like.. then for the love of GOD don't see RAMBO :P

I enjoyed it, but that's only because I can treat the movie like entertainment, and worry about the real life connotations later. If you choose to go see the movie, you should go in with the same attitude I did.
Hell, we're gamers, all we really want out of a movie like this is action, anyways... right?

@Satanic: haha thanks, I always try to add some humour to my mini-reviews.

EDIT: oh yah I forgot to mention, I was walking out of the theatre after the movie finished and some lady behind me uttered to her companion: "it was too soft for a RAMBO movie".
I laughed and turned back and said "haha, nice comment".
Dunno if she was being sarcastic or not, but either way, I want to marry her. She was pretty hot, too :P

Sorry man I was way to f*cking drunk this weekend. Plus I don't think we've even gotten it yet and the theaters in my town suck anyways.

Yep, everyone should see it, except for you PopJay.
Seriously, you're too young... it'll completely immoralize your opinion towards the real-life situation going on in Burma.

Speaking of which, this movie actually incited me to do some research on the Myanmar genocide going on. I've decided to send a medical/gift kit out via a service to the villagers who have been extracted out of the danger zones.

Fomr Rambo hisself...

(10-01) 10:12 PDT Los Angeles (AP) --
Sylvester Stallone says he and his "Rambo" sequel movie crew witnessed the human toll of unspeakable atrocities while filming along the Myanmar border.

"I witnessed the aftermath — survivors with legs cut off and all kinds of land mine injuries, maggot-infested wounds and ears cut off. We saw many elephants with blown off legs. We hear about Vietnam and Cambodia and this was more horrific," Stallone told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Monday.

Stallone returned eight days ago from shooting "John Rambo," the fourth movie in the action series, on the Salween River separating Thailand and Myanmar, the Southeast Asian nation formerly known as Burma.

"This is a hellhole beyond your wildest dreams," Stallone said. "All the trails are mined. The only way into Burma is up the river."

And this was all before the crackdown leading to the largest protests in Myanmar in two decades. After the government increased fuel prices in August, public anger turned to mass protest against 45 years of military dictatorship. Last week, soldiers responded by opening fire on unarmed demonstrators.

The "Rambo" script, written long before the current Myanmar uprising, features boatman John Rambo — the Vietnam War-era Green Beret who specializes in violent rescues and revenge — taking a group of mercenaries up the Salween River in search of missing Christian aid workers. The character "realizes man is just a few paces away from savagery when pushed."

"I called Soldier of Fortune magazine and they said Burma was the foremost area of human abuse on the planet," Stallone said.

Stallone is now editing "John Rambo," which will be released in January, and said he's trying to strike a balance and grapple with the question, "Are you making a documentary or a 'Rambo' movie?"

Shots were fired over the film crew's head at and there were threats, he said.

"We were told we could get seriously hurt if we went on," Stallone said, adding the families of Burmese extras in the movie were imprisoned.

"I was being accused, once again, of using the Third World as a 'Rambo' victim. The Burmese are beautiful people. It's the military I am portraying as cruel," he said.

Stallone's next challenge is trying to get an "R" rating from the Motion Picture Association of America.

"This is full scale genocide. I want an 'R' and I want the violence in there because it is reality. It would be a whitewashing not to show what's over there," he said, noting he plans to bring Myanmar survivors before the MPAA board.

"I think there is a story that needs to be told," Stallone said.

Yeah but I think he has some chemical help along the way. Didnt he busted for the human growth hormones while filming it?

I do want to see this one Filthy. Commando is still one of my favorite movies ever (I think I saw it when I was 10) and I'm sure Rambo has some seriously upgraded special effects compared to movie thats 20yrs old now. I still need to watch Cloverfield though.

Good post, Bob. Sounds like Stallone was very conscience of the situation in reality.

I loved how people's limbs just get blown off right and left.. just saw it last night, and I gotta say.. bad ass.

I thought the ending was a bit rushed though, dont you? I expected some race for the boat or something before more enemies showed up, but the movie just stopped and he was back in the States all of a sudden.

Just got back from watching the new Rambo movie. :D

I'd have to say my favorite part is when that guy saves that girl that crawls under the cage and knifes that guy in the throat and follows up with some kidney shanks. Frikkin' cobra right there, man! Unflinching! :O

I'd have to say I liked the ending there cuz that means their guide didn't just wuss out, he went out and got the cavalry!

+1 to Filthy's Review!

I went and saw this today and I have got to say...it was ok. Couple amusing moments and when things got bloody it got real bloody. Not a movie for kids because it is not the Rambo movies of 20 yrs ago that were nothing but bad acting and senseless violence but in fact it had one scene in particular not appropriate for kids under 16 at best.
