View Full Version : Marty... the TKer

I'm not sure if this is a rule that is being enforced or not, but when people come in with marty on it becomes a problem with the TKing that takes place. Most people will ask the person to choose another load out or another kit that isn't equipped with marty, but most of the time they don't listen and the TKing goes on for rounds and rounds.

Enforcing the rule is obviously up to you guys, but what about dropping in a few auto console messages in red text or something?

FF is on
No Martyrdom

ETC., ETC.,

What say you?

I agree with the scrolling text idea that Cajun mentioned. What would it take to get a light Admin for nothing more then say warnings/kicks not bans for this server? I'll be more then happy to help if that would be possible because I'm on most of the time in the evenings.

Martydom is a part of the game........ you avoid the enemy when you kill them.... just avoid teh teammates with it.

Not very useful when trying to capture a point that requires a team effort.

end of story i think, no reason it should be taken out. Everyone knew about it when the decision was made to go ff-on. WiH has always been a place to play to play the game... not tell you how to play it. I dont think we have ever actually regulated gameplay here... and i dont think we should start now.

<-- COD4 noob, installing it at the moment.

Does the server have an auto-kick feature for TKs? If so then that could be a viable option, but unless you could restrict the feature (which would take away a potentially fun feature from the game IMO) saying 'no martyrs' would be kinda pointless. It would be like the no base rape rule in BF2. Ultimately the effort that was required to constantly enforce it was too great. Admins are gamers too, and I am sure that they would rather enjoy the game as much as possible without spending the entire day/night watching people and kicking those who use the martyr feature. I know there are some out there that are reading this and thinking "admins are there to enforce the rules" which is a true statement. Take a moment and put yourselves in their shoes. After a day of work/school/bumming around, would you like to start up a game hoping to have some fun, but ultimately end up spectating others the entire time due to a rule that would be way too taxing to effectively enforce? When it would come to a rule that would take away all their time due to enforcing it, then I would have to say no. If it is just a few people who keep using it and end up TKing, then the warning/kick/ban process should be applied to said people.

Ultimately it would fall upon the player(s) who use it to keep some distance from their team members and make them aware of their load out. Communication is the key. I also know that there are those who don't communicate (I rarely talk). All I can say is be aware of your surroundings and spread out. Clumping together will just make an easier target for the opposition.

I, for one, will probably end up using it due to a lack of buggies and c4. ;)

OT: I also picked up another headset due to my other one still being in storage (lots of stuff to move, and I am a procrastinator). Hope to see everyone in the game in a few minutes. I get the feeling I will be an easy target.

An effective counter I use is picking up the marty nade and throwing it away.

I'd say about sixty percent of the time, it works EVERY TIME!

That's the solution, but your logic is flawed. Say you're capturing a HQ point, a flag or even running through a doorway and then someone near you gets killed that you've never played with, you don't know they have Marty on and you won't see the nade or any of the UI due to hardcore mode.

It is a problem, saying "oh well that's gameplay" isn't an option because it hinders the rest of the players on Mr. Marty's team.

thats the name of the game with ff-on in hardcore mode. Learn to love it, listen for that nice little ding ding on the ground and move the hell away.

I mean if you want to force marty off, that is a HUGE amount of work for the admins to regulate a game beyond what the developers wanted to be regulated. Besides, whats next, no cooking of nades. Well of course that shouldnt be allowed... I mean if you get shot by an enemy and your cooking a nade, it drops and blows up your teamates. Can't have that.

We could try to enforce a no nade rule... in the server title we should have "War Is Hell Hardcore - Only l33t players who dont use nades welcome! N00b Naders stay away!"

Or like said before, we could let the game play like the developers meant it to be played (ie they didnt add an option to FORCE marty off) and learn to deal with the decision that was ff-on. War IS hell, and friendly fire happens.

The server should not tell you how to play... simple as that.

I know others agree with me :)

It's an inconsiderate way to play the game. I do like the fact that the damage gets reflected after so many TKs. Although, it can be a tad annoying while trying to take the point and learning the guy with you has marty on after he's just killed you. Kinda difficult to hear the little ting of the nade falling when you have several people firing on you.

Perhaps a little server message telling people that FF is on and marty isnt such a good idea.

Yes it is, but let's be honest here, marty isn't friendly fire. Marty is blatant disregard for your teammates. Friendly fire is accidental (i.e. crossfire, etc.) while marty is no where near accidental because you (as a player) can't control it. By making the server hardcore and FF on it should be promoting team work. How can we play with and as a team if I need to monitor which teammates have marty on so I can make sure to run in the opposite direction of them rather than provide support on the objective at hand?

As I said before, I'm not sure anyone is looking for a rule to be enforced because of the work it would entail. An auto scrolling message in game as a reminder that FF is ON may be helpful.

I'm down for a console message or two.. ie: "friendly fire is on, martyrdom is not recommended!" "please turn martyrdom off, too many teamkills can get you kicked!"

I've noticed that a little friendly pressure from other players usually gets them to turn it off...

However, I do agree that it makes for an admin nightmare.

I've been able to avoid a couple marty tk's so far, so I'm getting the hang of it. I figure, if there's a kick limit for tk's, then perhaps that will have to do.

Love the server homies- keep up the good work.
