Wow I dont think I've ever seen a community where players and owners get along so well. We talked, they listened, If only the NHL would work that way. :x

CUSTOM MAP SERVER --- this is $$$$$$.

I dont think I've had this much fun playing counter -strike since the first day I killed Idiot SAVANT. I checked last night. For at least 2 hours BOTH servers had at least 30 people on them. Hence , wow the demand of the community to get ON the servers. My dog playfully looked at me last night with a toy in her mouth, waiting for the inevitable 15 minute wait to play. Haha! No quality time for joo dog!

What have the owners done for us? They created a whole new custom map server, scouring the internet and taking the best of the best custom maps! There is a good mix of classic remakes and some new maps too! Also, unlike OTHER custom servers, when you log on the map will be downloaded automatically. Trust me alot of custom servers DONT do that. Some of the texturing may be wrong, so you might have to go get the map yourself to fix some of the problems. But no map I saw was unplayable. Here is a few short reviews based on my play last night. There should be a mix of 9 maps, like the regular server, anyhow check it out:

cs_twilight-- an office style map that I think gives the CT's a little more of a chance. Groovy Dude thinks the T's can block two chokepoints fairly easily but I found a third entrance last night. Texturing was perfect, ran smoothly, the only thing is I had no clue where the Hostage rescue points were. I played this map as a CT.

cs_docks-- a very GOOD looking map with a twist. I played this map as a T, and off the bat I thought I had a good camping spot ( turns out its a better CT spot). T's have to defend hostages in 2 seperate buildings, lots of outside and indoor and wide open areas. After 5 rounds I didnt even realize a whole sewar system runs under the whole map. Its big folks, but great for the large 32 people we need to accomadate. One texturing problem on a trapdoor, only flaw.

de_drought-- (insert saberhagen whine here) He hated this map, I liked it. Some people had some slight lag problems, I didnt. Im running on a 1 year old Emachine with an integrated GEforce2. This map is a snipers paradise. CT's own the skys right at there spawn point. I played as a T, and T's have to jockey a bit for position. I meant to buy a scout every round after round 3, and forgot every single time. Im retarded. Map looked great no texturing issues.

de_nuke-- if you dont know what your doing be a T. T map 4 sure. Its small and fast fast action. I got owned every single time by people who knew the map. Its a good looking map too. Some texturing issues in archways, but to be fair it is a beta8. Other people said the map was perfect though, and the texturing didnt take away from gameplay at all. I only found one bombsite though.

cs_assualt_zt-- I read alot about this map before playing. I had no idea the building was so damn big. Multiple entrances and a solid camping map for T's. texturing was a real issue on this map and Im headed to punk ass fraggers to download the real deal. Alot boxes looked purple and black checkered, killing agent was seeing what Isaw too. Nice port though.

A few maps I didnt play Ill get to them today. Tell your friends! Tell your clans! The custom server is herre to stay!

Im sure the community will work with the owners to pick the best of the best for this server, and Im as anxious as anyone to play through these and see some new content too.

Peace,

Jeff

Sounds great, nice reviews.

I didn't get a chance to play much last night, and somehow I missed the announcement about the custom map server. I'll jump on there next time I get to play though.

cs_assault was, by far, my favorite map from the original CS. I played the zt map once or twice to see if it measured up, and I was a bit disappointed. Might have been b/c I wasn't playing on WiH though. :yaya: I'll give it a second chance, hopefully tonight.

I would like to thank the admins as well. I was extremely happy. I even smiled every time I got shot in the back because I didn't there was a door or a vent there. Freaking awesome not knowing the maps. Puts me back in the learning phase and I love it.

Ive said thank you for the great servers countless times so this time Im going to say it with a donation.

You guys rock

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll pass along to the owners.

We didn't get a chance to announce the server on the forums yesterday b/c frankly I was working on setting it up all day yesterday. When it was done, we made a quick announcement on the Public server to get some players on there so we can test out the maps and the download server. Good thing we did b/c there were a couple of glitches where a map wasn't found and textures were missing. I'll be working on the download server today to make sure all the files are there.

If you want to be proactive or don't want to wait for the in-game downloads, head over to http://www.punkassfraggers.com and download the following maps:

- zt_assualt
- cs_docks_djfinal
- de_nukes_b8
- cs_mansion
- de_drought
- cs_twilight
- cs_deadcity (not yet in rotation)
- de_rats (not yet in rotation)
- de_inferno

Please keep in mind that these maps were made with the beta SDK and they are not optimized so some could be laggy. It's not the server, it's the map itself. After we get some time playing on the maps, then we'll take out the ones that are bad. Btw, if you get a chance, check out de_inferno, it looks beautiful! Different from the old inferno though since this one has a european/urban flair to it.

Back to work for me.

de_drought-- (insert saberhagen whine here)

I had no lag whatsoever, but I'm running a pretty fast machine now (3ghz). However, I know a lot of people on ingame voice and TS were complaining about the lag.

At any rate, thanks for the kind words. Last night was fun, just wish I could have played longer (I had to take off during docks).

Sorry about the short notice on the server. As admin mentioned, we'd been working on it all day and were busy testing it before making the general announcement last night on the official server.

I'll probably be on the custom map server tonight. I'll see y'all then.

Yeah... thanks for putting it up... I shall go there for a while now (although I WILL Spec while that drought map is on :\)... but can I make a request? Can you guys put Militia (found at http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/CS_Source_DeMilitiaBeta4_Map;33158) in rotation? It was one of my favorite maps for CS and I would like to play it again ;). I just need somebody to do cs_siege now :\.

EDIT: Oh... and there is this one ( http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/CSSource_DeCbble2_Map;34515). It is called Cbble2 and it looks like it could be very fun.

Holy crap a militia map is out?

Saber good find on the cbble2 map. I despise cobble, just beacuse of the way it is mapped out, maybe this one will be different.

I've playtested Militia on another server a few weeks ago. It is in really rough shape. We'll have to re-eval it to see if it's worth putting on the server.

We're still trying to add maps to the server. de_rats was missing some textures in the download server. cs_deadcity spiked CPU to 100% and then crashed the custom server. de_drought have some sort of memory lead where the long we stay on it, the higher the pings get until it becomes unplayable for some people.

We'll work on getting cbble2, militia and courthouse on the server this weekend. Please bare with us as these custom maps are often buggy and will crash the server as we've seen tonite.

I keep pushing the server and relaying the same message. Alot of regular folks were on the custom map tonight and they are well aware of the pain of what nees to be done. Assault was checkered and blew last night. Tonight Killing agent and I saw NO checkered boxes. We know what effort is put into this and a few of us are doing our part to get folks on to fix the problems so we can make this just as popular as the PUB server. Believe me, alot of folks out there want this IP cause I push it all the time.
