Plans for 2142 Expansion or Booster Pack Scrapped

Looks like the end of the road for 2142

Word has reached us today from a reliable source, that any plans that might have been in the pipeline for an Expansion Pack or additional Booster Packs for Battlefield 2142, look to have been scrapped.

Rumors say that the sales for the title were just "OK" and the number of players playing the game continues to dwindle.

Dice has all hands on deck for the production of Battlefield: Bad Company for the Xbox 360 using the new "Frostbite" engine, in addition to the other mystery project that they are working on.

Rumors that Battlefield: Bad Company will also be released for the PC continue to be unconfirmed by Dice regardless what other sources are saying. Only time will tell if this title will be ported over to the PC platform as well.

Development and bug fixes of the 1.40 patch with the Highway Tampa map for 2142 continue, but no word on a potential release date has indicated yet. The 1.40 patch could be the last for 2142 if our source is correct.

-----------------

Lame. I guess they're just looking for their next fix: your wallet. It seems that games today are either becoming subscription based, or will die after the first few patches because of low sales.

If you ask me, Unreal Tournament 99 still takes the cake. Their open license allowed anyone to make a mod, a map, a sound pack, characters, weapons, etc..... and it was EASY to do it.

I guess the current state of gaming is a reality we're all going to have to get used to. :topicssucks:

either way, with frostbite being decades better then the first, what, 4 iterations if the refractor engine by more then the margin in quality between 1942 and bfv it would be completely logical to assume that they would do everything humanly possible to put as much effort into releasing bad company, and whatever the PC counterpart of the frostbite(in the ass) engine is.

mind you, if frostbite is even half as powerful as it has been shown to be, most if not all of the userbases that still play 1942 <-> 2142 would probally switch over to the new spec just because it would ad the streamlining of the controls of refractor 1.5 - 2.5, but would keep the view distance that continued to drop over time from the first game.

i would be happy with a game that would let me shoot at distances over 2km without having to shoot at what i "think" is a person, and what i "think" is an enemy, i should be able to tell from the zoom on the scope(or binocs).

either way, abandoning 2142 to speed up the two current projects makes sense.

The only thing that really concerns me about this is the fact that this trend is showing 1 yr life on a game and imo thats just not enough. In the grand scheme of things this is the future as Antigen said. This just means counter strike ftw.

hmm, that makes me wonder what fps games you have played.

any time the word "port" is used in reference to games, it makes me hesitate. it makes me think of games like starcraft 64 :puke: you might as well just stab yourself in the eye and play the pc version.

I want to say, this sucks. I really like 2142. Perhaps their next line of games for us to play will be hack proof. We can only hope.

as long as there are some players out there i think there will be some servers, and hopefully if it is seen as "dead" stupid n0oblet cheaters will not bother people and we can have decent fun games, maybe like dance dance big mech revolution or something.....

I bought it and played it for a few weeks, but just couldn't get into it. Ended up selling it a few months back.

I have a solution to this conundrum. Do your research before you buy. Stop buying horribly made games. Refuse to buy games with a subscription. Only buy games that are up to a certain standard and are free play.

Gaming companies make crappy games because they know they can make them and people will still buy them. Gaming companies charge subscription fees because gamers roll over and pay them. DEMAND controls the market folks. If gamers demanded more from the companies and refused to buy refuse, then they would answer the call for better products and less BS or they would go out of business.

Preach on... ... one of the reasons I never bought the game, paying to watch adds in game is another!

wow that sucks. i loved 2142. just didnt like how the servers would crash randomly or the fact that the crew i ran with at the time would empty out servers.

had some really sick moments in that game, be it solo medic defending a CP from a full squad or Recon knifing people in their back lines! Gibraltar was the heat map for IO!
