Well folks the CAL teams are off and kicking and the match server is still rolling. Though not really getting much use. Someone kicked the idea around of a custom map server. I never used the custom map server when it was available but I want to try to ignite the idea of bringing it back with quality maps. I posted for a few reasons.
1) The CAL league teams can find about 1000 servers out there that are ghost towns with good pings. Its true you cant lock them out, but we can get a good 30 minutes practice before a shmo wanders in there. Just AIM your teams with the IP address or PM them on the boards. On top of that I havnt seen anyone in pub say hey who wants some 5 on 5 action?
2) Lines are getting LONG for the pub server. I played with my dog on the floor of the comp room for 20 minutes yesterday waiting to get in last night. More and more folks are seeing "omg awp'd banned! dust pistols only!" and earmarking are little paradise as their own. "Curses! I would of played earlier if it wasnt for you meddling kids."
3) A high quality Custom map server would draw ALOT of regular folks over once they got the mappack downloaded and installed. Initially, this would free up more space for more meddling kids to make this there home.
4) Its getting routine like a marraige. Maps like Piransi, everyone and i mean EVERYONE knows which t's are running up the ct ramp, and which ct's are running up the t ramp.
So without further ado I plan on scouring the internet for the BEST of THE BEST of the BEST and posting links here so admins can look over them. I know nothing about putting together a map pack. My knowledge limit stops at providing a link that someone else might know what to do with. Im also not saying that the server will flip back to custom, im just going to go ahead and look around anyways (you cant stop me), generate some interest if you are interested. Post your thoughts, and if you want to help look for links remember I am looking for 9 QUALITY MAPS. Old school reproductions I think would generate more interest then 'Bobs leet AWP ownage slayfest"

This looks pretty damn tight its up to the standards that I wanted to see on a custom map server. Presentation, style, a remake, and nice lighting.

Jeff, these are good finds. Most of us who have been playing for a while have been wanting Docks back in rotation for a while.
Docks is one of those maps that create complete hell with FF on. Also it's a Hostage map. This is a very favored T map.
Nuke is also a T favored map. The T's can get to the bomb sites faster then the CT's can cover them. But it's an old favorite.
Both of these would be nice especially if Valve allows them in a Map pack.

**** boo ..... i posted that and you already had it in the rotation! is it a fun map? I heard nothing but good things about it.
Also, I dont think the custom map server survived, becuase the timing was horrible ( cs source brand new) and b) you have R E T A R D E D folks like me who didnt know where to get the maps, and c) your advertising was lame :P You gotta advertise like me Jeffers and tell folks how EASY it is to download and install this stuff ( even though it probably isnt).

That twilight map is nicely done, but there are 2 choke points that the T's can cover really really easy.

Umm, the front page had an announcement, and I personally had added a thread to the "Announcements" forum that also contained a link to the PAF map pack, whose install was as simple as double clicking on setup.
Just face it man, you loose. :silly:

personally i would love to play on the custom maps. figure out what maps you guys want in the rotation, and i'll dl it as soon as you post the map pack. i'm getting ready to build my own comp (eventually) and i'll probably breakdown and play again before then anyway :D
i'll help to make sure a custom map server stays afloat this time 'round :thumbsup:

Wow... I completely forgot about Docks... that is insane. I used to like that map quite a bit but it has been forever since I played it.
Any word on a remake of cs_alley (or whatever that map was)? I like that one pretty well.

This map is finished and complete and has beed playtested (no bugs found). It was made by the same guy who did the EXCELLENT cs_docks. Anyways take a peek and see if it should be added to custom server.

I have been looking around for some good maps that might be fun to add to the custom server... I play them after I download them to see if they are any good... well anyway... on to my first batch of suggestions:

Seemed like it could be a fun map... bomb sites were close but can both be defended decently well... a decent amount of ways to get in for Ts.

This map is fun. It is very small but there are 2 tall towers very close together and they are the same as one another. The thing that makes the map fun, is that you can shoot out the pillars holding up the ceiling to make the big block ceiling crash down which WILL KILL you Wink.

This map seemed very complex but I think if you play it enough you would have the routes memorized... I just played it tonight for the first time and it was like a maze for me... but it seemed welldone and I think it would be a nice addition.

Pretty fun map. It seemed like the routes were good and you could get a nice rush going... but also wouldn't be screwed with hard defense. About the same setting as Italy.

Remake of the old (and fun) map from Goldeneye. A few things are changed but it has the same general layout for the mostpart. It seems like it could be a lot of fun with more than just me walking around ;).

Played on the customer map server last nite and up until it crashed it was great. really loved watching some of the more experienced players that kill me consistently run around looking average. my scores were much better since we all had about equal map knowledge (at least until Mr. PotatoHead started fragging me in the same spot, my fault for continuning to go there) however i digress, the custom server is great i will be a regular the since it seems like the wait to get on the main standard map server is getting longer, Not complaining the wait we are seeing should be recognized as a tribute to the manner in which the WiH server is run, everyone that plays there wants to play there all the time. thanks for the kickass servers to play on :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

New server rocks, however I think the front page needs updating to show exactly what maps are in it right now, because I found out last night that I need de_rats, a map that I didn't download because it wasn't on the front page.

We're trying hard to get things running smoothly. Because maps go in and out of rotation on a moment's notice, sometimes info is not up-to-date. Once things stabilize on the server, then we'll update everything with correct info.
As of now, it's running: nukes, docks, mansion, twilight, zt_assault.

Are you going to put a map pack together on the download section?
The reason I ask is it is easier for me to download one map pack, then search for multiple maps. I have ISDN and it is only a 128/128 connection. Fine for gaming, sucks for downloading.

Pretty fun map. It seems like it has a good layout and some good defensive points... my only problem with it would have to be that the bomb sites are VERY close (like... way too close).

Well MajorPayne... it isn't. It has a terrible design, terrible performance when it is more than 2 people on it, and it just looks bad.

While it was fun, it was also very laggy for 85% of the players. Ping times usually increase after playing on that map for a while. There is also some sort of memory leak as well.

cs_docks (poor ct's get like a 5 second margin of error)

rooftops ( if i wanted to play deathmatch Id play HL2)

Also there is another inferno available which may or may not be the one we DID have on the server. I think it is a different one made by the same guys who made the above new NUKE. There should be a download link on the site.
If you want a very basic replacement for scoutz and knives there is a map out there called cs_bridge. Basically its a bridge with multiple ways of going over it. Alot of sniper action, alot of rush action. Its very straightforward though but might be fun with 20+ players.

I think mansion is terrible.. it looks worse than most HL1 deathmatch maps. My vote is take it right out. Same with Assault which just doesnt do it for me.
The current Nuke one also looks pretty bad in some places and quite unfinished (awful lighting outside and lack of detail overall) but its still got that classic gameplay.
Cobble2 also aint too hot in terms of looks, the gameplay is alright though i guess.
Courthouse is great, i like that map and same with the current inferno which was very well done. Twilight rocks the boat pretty good too.
If u replace the current Nuke with that new one I'd be much happier as well.

If you play the custom map server count on download after download after download. Or at least one every few days for the next few weeks. Then one a month. Then Wallah! 9 pretty good maps are on the server. As it stands the only maps I forsee being around in 2 months are twilight and courthouse ( thats not even his final version) and maybe Maybe docks. If valve releases a new map and chateau gets bumped, id want to see that on the custom server before half the crap thats out there now.

Update to de_courthouse, he added a third route (sewer system) and a shortcut between A and B. Also some windows out of Jail so T's dont have to run threw the door like lemmings anymore.

No. Once a map has been downloaded,it won't download again. What you might be seeing is the downloading of the .ain file. We don't know what that file is for but it always downloads for each custom map.

Man.. de_train is UGLY. Same with Facility. God awful ugly they are.
I'd rather ditch the 2 maps, even though the gameplay is good in Train and 'alright' in facility.
What do u think ppl?
Would be much better circulating the nice-looking maps with good gameplay than keep these 2 party crashers in IMO.

Nordlict-clan's playable version of their nuke was also released today. It is titled DE_GO_NUKE_b3. I have no idea where to get it.

THAT MAP IS INCREDIBLE. It easily hands down makes most of the official maps look like absolute shit. I know its a beta, but I couldnt find one screwed up texture anywhere. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

Admins wont want this map sitting unused on custom map server, I bet you think twice about throwing this badboy on the PUBLIC server. This custom map is in a class all by itself. The ambient sounds , the nuclear blast, geez man.....every texture WORKS even on my crappy comp....wow this is the best of the best of the best custom maps.

Yes facility looks bad but I love the way it plays... but that might be the Goldeneye fan in me ;).
I just got done playing the new nuke... and it looks great but has terrible performance overall... some parts just run like completely crap (like CT spawn... I am in the teens on FPS whereas I am usually 60+).
