Another good gaming nite last nite with the =HR= squad. Anyways, a couple of thoughts:

1. Leader should not be the front of the spear. When he gives the order to move out, he should be in the middle to near rear. He's the spawn point. He keeps the squad together. Protect him.

2. Point man needs a little lead room. Don't bunch up on the point man.

3. Sweeper. He needs to run backwards a lot to keep enemies from sneaking up on the squad.

4. When the squad is not moving, everyone should be actively looking around the area while the leader is talking to commander or planning the next move.

5. If I'm leading, I like my squad NOT to fire unless I start firing first. Firing on an enemy that is too far away only reveals our position and they'll call in arty on us. Of course if the threat is immediate then please open fire.

6. Medic. Please give #1 priority to the squad leader. He needs to stay alive to provide a spawn point for the team. The rest of the team can always spawn in on him if you don't get to them in time.

7. Squad needs to tell the leader what they need. Then the leader can in turn request it from the commander.

8. Squad leader must communicate with squad constantly telling them what he wants them to do. The squad in turn must inform the leader of situational awareness.

definitely needs to talk more, and keep the group together, as last night I noticed we were getting split up a little too much,

I would also recommend to maintain the same spawn point if not revived, so that we still can stay in collaberation, and know where the respawn will be, cause I made that mistake and respawned way too far away, other than that Good Job Crotch and Meltdown

I wasn't talking last nite on Ts b/c we had spies in the channel, <cough>Murdock<cough>, who would hear me telling people where to spawn and move and then artillery rained down on us.

I'll be using VOIP as leader from now on unless we can be in a channel with just the squad.

no no, you guys were talking just fine, and I was referring to the VOIP not TS, by talking more, just to reitterate our goals, and what we need for infantry, cause people like me tend to wonder off, though I really enjoyed being given that secret mission!!!

and as for poor Murdock, he was on the =HR= team then was switched on map reset.

Squad leader should be a Medic. This way if he's critically wounded, anyone of his squad member can pickup the Medic kit and revive him when there's no other medic around.

That will at least save his butt once.

Thats exactly what I love about BF2 is the communication and command structure. Its a great improvement over 1942 in the sense that everyone went their own way(which was sorta effective) to now if I try to take a point alone I get my ass handed to me by a suddenly spawned group of 10 people.

WHAT??? i love taking bases by myself... i'm usually a medic, so i can patch myself up real good, but its awsome when you take out 1-2 squads by yourself... plus, it adds confusion when then have no idea what is happening. you just have to know where all the spawn points are, and strategicly patrol them until the flag is taken.

I was wondering why you weren't sticking with my squad last nite. When you called for help. I couldn't provide anything b/c you were across the map.

Dooh, this is your rule #1 and this is the 1 that I break all the time. Anyone who has ever ran with 1 of my squads can tell you that I am always on the go, usually leading the charge. I am usually lucky enough to have a couple good medics behind me.

WiHadmin, you forgot one, If you see a tank or APV hide and let it go past otherwise you are just asking for trouble. When playing, I am usually squad leader for my BFS crew and we usually rule because we work as a team, the reason: everyone listens. This squad/commander thing is awesome, if used properly your team will win EVERY SINGLE TIME. Teamwork is a must in real combat and is highly successful in BF2.

Agreed! I typically will call out a Spotted xyz and then tell my squad to hide and let it pass. Sometimes an over-eager member will try to take on the tank with his M4 and ends getting the whole squad killed by the tank. WTF is up with that?

Squad leader should also remember his squad number as opposed to the name as a good commander will give squads the heads up by adressing them by their numbers on the map.

if you're a squad leader, it shows your squad numbernext to your health, therefore if you're like me it's glaring you in the face alot.
