ok ill be a copycat :)
Here's some ground rules for sniping:
1) Dont bother being a sniper if the map has 32 players on it or even 40. There is not enough infantry to be effective, on a full 64 man server though, feel free to snipe to your heart's content.
2) Pick a location where you can be uber - effective against infantry. I mean you have to really pick a spot where you are firing constantly and then waiting for ammo drops. An example of this is the warehouse. You can fire on the beach center flag to the river outpost. Or if no action is going on there relocate a littel on the roof and snipe the construction site in the center of the map. Think High traffic areas and spawn points.
*special note* -- there are circumstances where you have to pick a specific position. If their special forces are constantly destroying your UAV, ARTY, and RADAR ( like over and over and over again)--then plant yourself on top of the oil tower and put a stop to that nonsense. Thats unusual though.
3) The ranger on rifles is phenomenal. Dont be antsy and try to lead your target though. EA has stated on the forums that you do not need to lead your target and I've proven it to myself so take's Jeff word as bond. There is a range where your targets will disseapear, thats called max range. Its a long ways though and even targets that disseapear in your scope will be little black specks before they do so. I timed someone running to me from max range sprinting and such. It took well over 60 seconds to get to my position. Do the math in your head, that range is huge.
4) Claymores. Lay them far enough away from you but somewhere along the path that you are most likely to get approached. There one-time lifesavers for anyone approaching your backside. Right now people are too stupid to steer clear of them, even your own team, but in time people will learn.
5) Call for ammo drops on your position. Ive read other threads where people say, "Fire three shots and move, fire three shots and move." Fook dat, Ive stayed in one spot and gotten 2 consecutive ammo drops on my position for refills and 15 kills before anyone even bothered with me. Eventually, people will get tired of you wounding them at spawn and decide to do something about it.
6) Anyone that thinks snipers are useless are right if there is less then 64 folks on a map. But when the servers full watch out. You dont just get points for kills. You get points for half -kills too. That means if you snipe someone and someone else finsishes him off, you get credit to your overall score. I have yet to see any other class do that. Maybe thats because most classes finsih off their targets the first time. But when you've wounded 200 hundred people in a game your score skyrockets and you are helping your team more then they think.
7) Sniper is definetly a support role. Your team may not realize your helping them at the time, but when final scores pop up and your ranked 3'd on the team, you must of been doing somthing right.
