I dont consider that official unless I see it from EA themself.

I feel bad for the server operators who only have 1 IP available who also run DCF or other BF mods on the same IP. All of them are down.

This will more then likely kill most of the support for BF2 from a lot of people. At this point, I'm still buying BF 2 and I will never set foot into a EA Ranked server. I will stick with the WiH servers, even if I have to connect via IP.

Hopefully the PoE team will develop a much better product. PoE was better the BF:V, in my opinion. It's the only thing that kept those CDs from being a drink coaster.

Nothing is going to be "offical" on this. EA is blaming Gamespy. Gamespy will blame EA.

I go through this every day with my own job. :x

EA does not feel that altering the time limit of the game and unlocking weapons which were intentionally made unplayable as "in the spirit of modding." As of now, EA plans to continue this enforcement of their demo, as these changes are considered by Electronic Artis to be "hacks" and not "mods". This author can understand that statement, as the demo is released as a preview version of Battlefield 2. There is no final decision as to how these IP bans will be carried forward after the demo.

I'm really starting to hate EA... Fucking incredible.

"Let's ban Demo Server that altered the time limit." -

"Brillant!"

"Wait, some of the demo servers have the weapons unlocked. They didn't play on the ranked server. Damnit! We are losing money. Close those fuckers down now!"

=HR=Gumby!!!

Here I'll once again resort to my one and only statement on EA "Yay for EA :jerkit: "

Hope that doesn't carry over..that would suck..how ya figure thats a hack..tell ya what it they put it in the shell of the game as an option then you can say EA supports hacks and screw them over...but you know what, we have no proof ..so we lose at the end...how's valve worse than these guys again?
Being that's its just a demo there no reason to stress about it..but the principle of the matter is at stake here. They better kiss some major @$$ after all this.

Bottom line is they saw the people's reaction that the special weapons aren't all that. There goes the only attraction to play on their ranked servers. If no one cares about these weapons, then who the hell is going to rent ranked server from them? There goes the $$$.

So they go after the demo servers.

Valve has bad support, but don't nearly bend you over a chair and give it to you from behind, like EA.

I knew EA wouldn't disappoint me in the "Make a crappy game... have the worst service ever... yet millions will buy the piece of crap".... that is EAs way of life.

Unless it's a time limit free server I won't play. You can all
Count me out. This whole ranked server idea is going to bomb,
Kind of like I hoped it would.

it's about time some web sites starts posting this news. The other admins and myself have been fighting this in various threads in various forums. The puzzling thing to me is that we are being slammed by some in the player community and called hackers. They perceive EA's action as a move against the hacking community. WTF?!?!?! When asked where they play their demo: on EA's servers or private servers. None answered.

So then, this is official. Hmm....does this mean our present server config of NTL, but not stated in the name is staying? or are you changing it back to Timed so as not to get slammed and lose another IP?

Just curious if the full version will show up in Xfire or the All-Seeing Eye (ASE). Since it doesn't use the gamespy browser.

I haven't seen the demo show up yet in ASE, but I'm sure one or both eventually will.

Who needs their browser anyways. :jester:

Latest statement from EA's forums:

We've just had some clarification on this matter. In the full version, servers will not be delisted for modifying their Python config files unless they do something that circumvents intended game features in a bad way. We feel this is very unlikely to be an issue with the retail release.

I feel like this post generally says it best for me and (I would assume) for the owners of WIH:

I would like to voice our displeasure over at Speedguide.Net, of this stance EA has taken.
For a few years now, we built a gaming community with our own money/servers/bandwidth, to run the Battlefield series of games. Starting out with Battlefield 1942, continuing with Battlefield Vietnam, and now on the verge of Battlefield 2.

A handful of us at Speedguide.Net were into the game, we got together to get the game server project going...and brought on board many other members from our technical and broadband forums. Our project drove many sales of bf'42 and bf:v. These are people who would not have bought the game, but because of the gaming community we built within our forums...they went out and purchased those games. I'm not talking just 2-3 copies here...I'm talking dozens and dozens of copies. Purchased by people who would not have purchased the game unless our game server was running it...because our goal is to play something together, as a gaming community, regardless of what the game is.

We've always tried to run a tight game server, no foul language, no racist comments allowed, no smacktard behavior allowed, and have tried to promote the game at its best. And no cheating or use of exploits. Just about every single morning before work, I play on ea.jolt.uk's BF:V Irving 24/7 server. I can't say the same about how that ship is run, it's often smacktard and foul mouthed kiddie central.

We can't believe how strict the stance is on how "hacks" is being interpreted. Unlocking the weapons...I can kinda see that as being a hack. But simply taking off the time limit...that does not promote cheating, that does not promote smacktard behavior, matter of fact...all I can thing of that it promotes...is a more in depth appreciation and enjoyment of the game, you really get your appetite going for the game. More of a taste of the game and what it allows...it does nothing but build the craving for the game.

Raising the time limit should not be seen as something going against what the game is about. It's simply getting people even more hooked on the game.

I'm shocked at this move. There are some long time loyal game server admins here who got smacked the face for our loyalty to EA over the years. Our friends over at ZombieBattalion.com...they've been HUGE promoters of EA games, they've been running servers for MOHAA/SH/COD/UT2K3/4, and every flavor imaginable of those games. A lot of us have run some pretty tight ships before, and did this with intentions of bringing even more draw to the game, even more players who would run out and purchase the game. This wasn't done in a move to enable cheats, exploits, or take any $ away from EA...this was done with good intentions....to draw even more people, period!

So you're not playing on our NTL server?

That's not what I said. I said I wouldn't play on time limited servers. At any rate, that's not the point of the message.

Sooner or later the real message will jump out at someone.

ROFL I just caught it. But anyways I think ea is retarded for banning over the time limit but I can understand over the unlockables. The time limit was stupid to begin with because sometimes you get a good battle going and all of a sudden time runs out and you have to start over. But the unlockables should never have been made available and EA had every right to punish people for that. Though many of you probably disagree with me but hey I am a doctor so :flipoff:

wihadmin
06-15-2005, 11:12 PM
At least we all got a chance to try out all the unlockable weapons. Now you can make an informed decision on how much time you want to allocate to playing on WiH servers vs. EA/other ranked servers.

We hope you decide to play on War is Hell.

Actually ASE and XFire are not going to be able to support it at all. There is a post from the ASE devs in their forums that this time around EA is refusing to give them access to the "master server list". You MUST go through gamespy or the in game browser and they (EA) won't give you any choice.
