Try here first
http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php
If that doesn't work, just look through PB's site. I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere :D

At least you don't crash to desktop whenever BF2 feels like it.. plus it's been freezing my whole system lately too.
So much for coming back to play.....

I thought it was something with my system--took it apart and rebuilt it back together. My system would just freeze in game.

You know.. come to think of it..
my system has only started freezing in game since the latest punk buster update.. when they added the punkbstra.exe to your system processes..
I've been playing BF2 since it came out, and have never had my system hard freeze in the middle of playing until recently. hrrrrmmmm....

some ppl are reporting a pnkbustab.exe also
i havent' seen that, but then again, i haven't alt-tab during gaming to see it in task manager.....
i haven't gotten any freeze in game, but everytime i boot up bf2, the first time i try to connect to a server it says something like it cannot connect......but a 2nd try and it connects
looks like they did another update yesterday, version is up to 1.735 now

You need to updated your PB manually. It the self uninstall and then reinstall program. Try that see if it works. Got to PB website to DL it. If you cant find it. I'll get you a linky

Does punkbuster leave files on your desktop? When I do the manually update, it leaves 6 files there. Can I delete them? Thanks

You need to run the update from inside the folder where the game is.
Not from the desktop. Those files are the update.
The instructions should have it in there.
(at least that was how it was last time I had to do a manual PB update)

First go here
http://www.punkbuster.com/
then click on BF2
Click on software updates download
Click to install PBsetup, for windows it is pbsetup.exe
choose a game to update and it will do the rest.
Edited to add, whenever there is aan update and you don't want to let it autoupdate, just click on this updater and it will do it for you.

That is a big ditto from me. Thought it was an install gone bad or a bad driver or clogged fans. Took the whole thing apart and cleaned it all and then reinstalled it, still the same prob. I have even updated PB.

After you manually uninstall and reinstall PB, allow your firewall for PB to have access to the internet.

It does not say to run it from BF2 folder, but I will try that. Thanks

it says to put it in its own folder so that the files it creates don't get deleted. I put mine right into the BF2 PB folder, seemed appropriate.

Well it seems that the EA message that comes up when you log in is now back for me, and since then I have had no problems connecting. I think this was a combo punkbuster gamespy issue.
