From the company that we rent our servers from. EA official ranked BF2 servers cost......

Are you guys ready???

$8.50 per player slot

If we wanted ranked servers with EA

64-player x $8.50 = $544
64-player x $8.50 = $544
32-player x $8.50 = $272

for a grand total of..... $1360 monthly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

minimum donations now will be $50 a pop. :) But seriously, this is why we will never have ranked servers.

You guys had a chance to try out the unlocked weapons, is it worth it to have ranked servers?

nope, just keep it unlocked so we can get the weaps from the ea servers and then come on back. Well I won't be doing that, but I will be killing you all who do have them and stealing your kit :D

Seriously, that is FREAKIN' OUTRAGEOUS!!! I mean, the weaps aren't that much better IMHO, not for that $$$!

That is ridiculous... I do have to say I like the unlockable Engineer and medic weapons, as for the others, not really.

The unlockable sniper weapons on both sides pretty much look like the AWP. But they sure as hell dont hit like the AWP. Matter of fact I saw no difference in damage and the big thick crosshair made me not sure if i was pinpointing them or not. Note to snipers, I think everytime you see a small yellow x on your target after you fire it means you scored a hit. Anyone back that up? Ive only seen it on really long range shots.

I think that shows up for everybody when you score a hit. I think.

While I can't talk about the specifics of our operations, the normal CS:S server rental is $2-$2.50 per slot.

Personally, I haven't really noticed a difference between the unlockables and the normal guns. I like the standard Medic gun more. The only Unlockables I like is the Anti-tanks Grenade Launcher and the new Support gun...

That's it.

I love the new support gun and the medic gun but other then that they all are the same. It sure isnt worth that INSANE price. INSANE

Here's the real world cost of running BF2 servers. Info taken from http://www.artofwarcentral.com. They are a partner with EA and authorized to sell BF2 servers.

Demo server
64 Max Player Slots $169.95 Monthly @ ~$2.65/slot

Unranked
64 Max Player Slots $170.95 Monthly @ ~$2.65/slot

Ranked
64 Max Player Slots $383.95 Monthly @ ~$6/slot

So unranked servers are normal cost. Ranked is a different story.

And these aren't even a whole server, right? It's just an instance of a server among several others running on the same box. Guess what that means....that's right, piss poor performance.

That is double/triple the costs of CS servers for Christ's sake!

These are not dedicated servers. That means that you get a game instance of BF2. According to EA, you have minimal admin rights. I'm sure to kick/ban players, change map rotations, time limits, etc... But not much else beyond that. You can't run mods, you can't change other settings.

Like I was saying in TS, they build the server engine to be extremely efficient so that they can throw up 10 servers onto a machine. But yeah, performance of a server is dependent upon the machine that is running it. if the other servers are hopping, your BF2 server will suffer.

So, technically, you are a purchasing a 64 user license with no control?! Strange, why in the hell are people going to purchase ranked servers, when you can get a non-ranked for cheaper and have complete control??

I don't believe a ranked server is nesscery, new weapons isn't that special, I think hanging out and killing you all is more special  http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/buttrock.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/drink.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/ak3.gif
