Asus = go into bios, push FSB up by 10mhz for 50mhz gain(# * multiplier = overall increase)
other then that, dunno, but don't fry the damn thing, if it's fine and works good where it's at, don't screw with it.

i have no clue about any of this i pretty much need the complete idiots guide to overclocking. I also have vista and im not sure if that messes anything up.

Vista shouldn't matter... in order to start overclocking you're going to need to know what your CPU temperature is at all times. If you have an ASUS board, you can use ASUS Probe, ABit boards have microguru (uGuru). Failing that, you can download SpeedFan or HMonitor. I like SpeedFan the best out of the third-party monitors. If you have an nForce based motherboard, you can just use nTune for everything. Make sure your heatsinks are dust-free and that your fans are working correctly.
The next thing you need is a way to do the overclocking. You can either do it through the BIOS or through a program like SysTool. BIOS overclocking varies with the different manufacturers and BIOS revisions, so it's difficult to give you a generic step-by-step walkthrough in that respect. If you use SysTool, all that's involved is moving sliders around. I can post screenshots if you need them after I get off of work.
Once you figure out how to adjust your CPU clock, I would start by raising the clock by ~10% of the factory clock speed. That's usually a safe starting point. Once you've raised the clock, you can either play a game or run a CPU stresser like CPU Burn-in to occupy the CPU. I think SysTools might let you stress the CPU too. Anyway, once you've had the CPU running for a bit, check what the temperature peaks out at. I usually stop raising the clock once the CPU gets close to 50*C. Some people like it cooler, other go higher. The key is to overclock in small steps and to test constantly.
You might run into lockups and crashes as you do this. If you get one, you should probably stop at a clock slightly below that point. There is more advanced stuff you can do... you can get better cooling equipment to keep pushing the clock, but at some point you will need to raise the CPU voltage. There's a real risk if you do that incorrectly, so I wouldn't recommend a beginning overclocker mess with CPU voltages just yet.
CPU Burnin: (Note that if you have a multi-core processor, you'll have to run multiple instances of CPU-Burnin)

First thing I would recommend is that update your BIOS..if you haven't done so. That helps lot. Then once you have it read more about that BIOS how to over clock your computer.

First, what heatsink do you have? Mobo? Keep in mind OCing can kill computer components if not done right.

what mobo are u running? also that 90nm chip will only go to 2.7 if you have good memory and a good chip. you will need to bump the volt core up to 1.4 i sure hope u have good cooling.

also ur speed fan must be on cause ur only running at 1ghz when u should be running at 2ghz. no one else say this?
can u get us a screen shot of ur memory. also what memory do you have?
and OCing in windows blows. u really have to do it in the bios to have a stable system.

That is wierd. If you just fix that you prob won't need to OC. I had a 3800 and if the biggest thing you're doing is BF2 then you shouldn't need to OC it.

i know what it is, its AMD software. it keeps the CPU cool. and what u talking about u always need to over clock.

Yeah, I noticed that... you're right, it's AMD's Cool & Quiet... the CPU voltage is down to ~1.1V too. It's not really a cause for concern though, the processor should operate at the set speed under load.
An after-market fan might not be bad idea... my 4400+ does get kind of toasty. Like I said earlier, I would draw the line at raising CPU voltages. Keep in mind he's new at this... I wouldn't do much more than a mild OC to start out.

he should be able to go to 2.2 with out changing much. if he has DDR2 800 this would help him too.

Not if you like your warranty cause OCing will usually void it.

for 60-70 bucks I will always over clock. If ur dumb and cook ur CPU then i could see the void in the warranty.

Erm, I have had too many parts die recently on a friends computer. First, his RAM went, maybe a year ago. It was a 1 gig DDR400 XMS RAM stick. Recently his mobo's southbridge started to fail. (Anything in a PCI slot, like the sound card was not recognized by the system, along with firewire ports and ethernet ports, bye bye internet) Thankfully my friend's parts were covered by warrenties! If I had OCed this system for whatever reason, I would be up a river without a paddle. Thankfully the computer I did OC, my brother's, has not been riddled with problems. (yea yea, it's a 10% OC, but it was my first time. :D )

This Website Helped me out..http://www.overclockingwiki.org
I have a Core 2 E6600 2.40GHz @ 3.45 Ghz 1.37v .. I also Had it stable at 3.75 Ghz 1.5725 Vcore. Ran Prime95 for 12+ hrs no problem
Hope the site helps
