Well if you've already read my last post then you know my cpu died, and I need to know if anyone has any experience or recommendations of the latest sempron chip. Some have told me that it is a downgrade, and others say it is an upgrade. I really don't want to rebuild everything which is why I'm not going with the 64 yet. I was thinking of buying the new chip and then rma-ing the athlon xp 2800+, and then selling the chip I get back on ebay to get pay for the new one. This way everything will be faster, and I won't have to be off my pc for as long.
So any sempron advice would be much appreciated...

Sempron = Celeron = Piece of Crap!
go with a AMD 2800+ or better (if you have a 400mhz board, stay away from the Barton series, as your best memory speed will be 333mhz regardless of the memory you have, meaning if you pc3200, it will run at pc2700)

Thanks dray...I have a 400 board, but I have 2700 333mhz memory, and I'm not going to replace that. I ordered a 3000+ 333 off oamdf new egg, and figure I'll just ebay my 2800+ when i get a new one from

you are only upgrading from a 2800 to a 3000? That really isn't worth it bud, sorry. Better off getting faster memory and/or a better video card.

The point is not to upgrade, but my 2800+ crapped out, but the rma process takes too long, so I am buying a 3000+ to put in place of it until I get the 2800+ back from AMD, which I will then ebay to make up for the cost of the 3000+.

hell you talking about, the barton core was the first(and only) of the XP series to support 400fsb, you mean stay away from the older cores.
and fsb of the cpu has no standing on the speed the memory runs at(the speed of the memory and the speed the motherboard supports does)
IE: 333fsb cpu + ddr400 memory + motheraboard that supports upto 333 = ram runs at 333
333fsb + ddr400 + board support 400 = mem at 400 + bottleneck between fsb and memory.
400fps + ddr400 + support 400 = mem at 400 + no bottleneck.
but the fsb to mem bottleneck is minimal anyway.

I still wouldn't do that one, the 3200 is only 10-20 more, and it is a 400mhz based processor. goto www.pricewatch.com and click on the link under motherboards for cpu's. I would go with the 3200 over the 3000, especially for that small difference.
