I am so tired of this old discussion about violence in video games. The same thing is always said, violence in video games promotes violence in people. I always hear about someone saying their teenager killed someone or became more violent due to playing games. Well then parents need to take responsibility for what their kids do. First of all violent video games are not meant for kids. Also there is more violence on the news then there is in video games. Everyday you see images of dead people in Iraq or attacks against convoys. Should we stop the news too. Movies are a much more widespread media than video games but no one seems to mind the violence there either.

The studies always finish up by saying that more research needs to be done. Ofcourse because nothing can ever be conclusive in this study. Ok there is my 2 1/2 cents.

Shinto, I agree with you 100% my friend, whether or not a TEEN(teen being the key word in that article) Plays a violent game or watches violences on tv..he/she will still be exposed to violence one way or another, that's the way the world and it's people's on it have been for our existence, we're animals when it comes down to it..and aggressiveness is in our nature!! RAWR!!! :hehehe:

i just think the article was written by a biased person. the title says violent video games, but the study done to "prove" that it was true said that the subjects were exposed to violenc in the media. it would be more accurate to change the title or mention exactly what kind of violent media the subjects were exposed to. all in all a poorly written article for stupid ppl who would never catch on to that.

I have been playing violent video games for forever now... and I am not violent at all...

However... these people need to stop putting articles like this up because I WILL KILL THEM AND FEAST UPON THE HEARTS OF THEIR FAMILY!

I remember when Dig Dug came out there was a rash of jackhammer killings. Also Qbert, people would jump on others from there rooftops. Messy stuff.

1. the article is an extract of an extract of a study that was published in the Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, which is not available to a non-subscriber.

2. few of us would be able to validate the design of the study as (i imagine) few of us know what constitutes a valid design and what does not, nor would we understand the potential shortcomings of the design used for this study.

3. assuming that the Indiana University School of Medicine followed a design that would not be considered "bad science", did their groups constitute an appropriate sample size?

4. what effect does exposure to "real" violence have on our frontal cortex vs. mediated violence?

5.
William Kronenberger, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, who has collaborated with Dr. Mathews on these ongoing studies, cautioned that more research is needed before conclusions can be drawn that media violence exposure causes the brain activation differences.

6.
The research was funded by the Center for Successful Parenting.

This CSP group is on a mission. Check out what they call "the facts": http://www.sosparents.org/The%20Facts.htm

Where the money is coming from is ALWAYS important in understanding the impetus and direction lying behind the "research". I can show you "scientific" studies that prove that second-hand smoke is not harmful to your health.

But yeah, violent media definitely makes people more aggressive and interferes with their ability to make rational decisions. :)
