View Full Version : Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [Spoilers inside]
Well, I went and saw this yesterday, and must say that I was absolutely bored to tears. I've never yawned so much during a movie. Well, that's not completely true, but I was quite surprised by how much I wasn't entertained. The only part that was really worthy of attention was the final wand battle towards the end(which was done fantastically), other then that, I couldn't keep my eyes on the screen for long. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the books(casually so though, I've read each one only once), and I do remember Order being able to hold my attention far better than this film. Although Order didn't have as much action and adventuring as previous entries, it was still great to read. That's probably where the failure to successfully translate this to the screen took place. It's better to read, then watch. If you're a fan of the series, you should probably still go see it, you may like it more than I(plus did I mention the bad-ass wizard fight at the end?). If you aren't a fan of either the movies or the books, then you should probably just stay away. The only thing this movie has going for it, besides the great fight during the climax of the film, is that it has practically done away with it's cutesy overcoating, and replaced it with a dark, more maleficent aura, which resonates constantly throughout the movie. Which I guess is faithful to the darker undertones of the novel.

I really liked it. I never read the books but I have loved the movies. That final wand battle at the end was absolutly amazing. I would recommend the movie just for the final battle. The one thing I didn't like was that new teacher. Talk about a bitch. The whole movie I was waiting for her to die. She just made me mad. Not quite as good of an all around movie as Goblet of Fire but was still pretty good. I give it:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The movie for being a movie was good. It seemed a little rushed because they had to go forward with the story in the book fast enough to make it a movie. Honestly it was probably pretty hard to condense the largest book in the collection so far into a 2 hour 18 min. movie. Those that read the book will noticed they skipped over a whole shit load in the movie. A lot of which you will feel they should have added or left in because they were so important in the book. "Creature's involvement" or "Background of Bellatrix Lestrange and Nevel's Parents" or even "Severus Snape and his younger years with James and all of them" or the big one "The Family lines and their connections" (Those that read the book know what I mean). That's just naming a few without giving anything away. I felt they should have detailed things a bit more and added a good 25 minutes to the movie to explain a bit better.
Did I think it was a good movie? Yes, especially if you have not read the books. If you did not read the books then you will enjoy it quite a bit even if it felt rushed.
For those that read the book it told a story well enough but could have been much more detailed in some key important portions and therefore much more interesting. If you did not enjoy the darkness of the book then you might actually like the movie better. If you liked the darkness of the book then you might dislike the movie more. All depends on your point of view.

I saw it today.
I was not bored to tears by any means. Though I wasn't rivited to my seat either.
They had to take out a LOT of material to make the movie, but I still think it was very well done. If you have never read a Harry Potter book, you would never be the wiser. Fans of the series may wonder why "XYZ" was not included....but you have to remember it was still a 2+ hour movie :slap: (Though it didn't seem like it)
NITTY GRITTY... If you liked the previous Harry Potter movies, you WILL like this one. If you have read the books, you will ALSO like the movie. If you are just getting into the Harry Potter series, I suggest you watch/read the previous stories first.
OVERALL I give it :thumbsup::thumbsup: OUT OF :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

saw it, it was okay, not my fave, though i have to admit emma watson is getting nice.... yes she is only 17... but.... in the uk.... :D
anyway, they missed out alot and certain things that would have made the next film more understandable, for those who have not read the book, the movies are really like the synopsis, the nitty gritty is in the pages, though as movies go it was quite okay..
though compared to 50ft robots blasting the living snot out of each other and humans it is no where near on the same level :D
on a slightly different note, we saw the HOGFATHER tv movie that sky had aired this last christmas in the uk, and for all intents and purposes it was very accurate and good fun too.... we need more movies like that and less of the flare pomp and circumstance, but thats just me.

I saw it this weekend and I thought it was ok. I think the movies are actually getting worse though with a peak at the 3rd movie.

My personal opinion on why that may be, is that more and more of the books have to be left out in order to keep it to "only" a 2 hour movie.
I still strongly suggest you guys/gals read the books. It will make the movies more enjoyable too

I highly recommend going to Imax to see this movie. The last 25 minutes is in 3D and it is very cool to watch. The wizard duel is so much more fun to watch. I cant wait until they re-re-release the star wars movies in this format. Its so cool it could make Phantom Menace fun to watch
