Ok. So we're having a hundred year flood here.
http://www.usatoday.com/weather/storms/2007-07-02-kansas-flood_N.htm
All this rain fell just north in Kansas and they are getting hit hard. Well, guess where all that water is heading next.
To my house. And my friends.
Two buddies are already underwater and one is semi-evacuating as we speak.
The Oolagah Lake flood gates and my house are at the same elevation. About 660 feet. Right now the lake is at 652 feet and the bulk of the water is still 24 hours north.
*cue ominous music*
It's going to be close. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
Wish me luck.

wow, good luck bud, luckily my little house is on a hill and elevated enough.
well, bob.....if you get into some bad shit, give me a call. i would rather help you out than go to work. i have an acquaintance working for the usgs and i talked to her friday night, all of this is crazy.
all of the business loading docks are filled with water, is funny seeing a bunch of small swimming pools behind the businesses. so much water the runoffs are full or clogged. my boat is at my dads, but im not in the situation you are.
again my cell phone is working, you are not too far away.

Its weirds, I'm in Dallas and we have NEVER experience rain like this ANY summmer(all my 20 years living here). I'm serious when I say we had NON-stop rain for June(everyday).
Here's a picture 40 mins from my house to what happen to a highway. Freaking sinkhole couldnt take all the water and it burst.

I'm feeling better about my place this morning. While there is still a ton of water north of here, it doesn't seem to be finding it's way south as fast as I thought it would.
A refinery in Coffeyville went under and spilled 42,000 gallons of oil in the water. That's a heck of a mess to add to the problem. All of that will wind up in my lake/tap water.
:wallbash:
On a brighter note, we had a little flood party last night with kick azz margueritas and then went and caught catfish in my woods.

lots of places are flooding, my sister in the UK is reporting widespread floods too, worse then moany on record and for the second time this year!
we had some torrential rain in chicago too, a few of my family members in basement apartments got flooded..
this is global warming eh?? all that water has to go somewhere, the irony is though there are still other parts with drought.
hope all get dry and stay dry...

Another six hours and I think the lake will be overflowing into the pond.

The brownish red stuff at the far side of the pic is Lake Eufaula I took this 4 days ago
Now its 55 feet from my house the lake is currently 4 feet lower then the level of my house it is usually 12 feet lower:wallbash:
To give you an Idea I am standing on the front deck and now the water is where the dog is in this pic.
Dont worry, I gave him an innertube yesterday
I understand they are going to close the gates of the dam to prevent flooding down the river so that means I may be underwater in a few days if the rain doesnt stop.
Thats the price you pay for lake front property:upyours::thumbsdown::wallbash:

Geez. I hope you have already prepared your house for some water flooding and have gotten all the stuff you are going to take with you ready. Better be prepared rather than not and lose all the stuff you might want to save. At very least take everything within a couple feet of the floor and put them higher on tables or upstairs if you have a second story. You can always just put it back if nothing happens. Be safe.. good luck!

In Dallas where I live we have had 45 days of rain. Lake Ray Hubbard, the lake I live on was several feet below level where whole patches of lake disappeared. The best way to explain is an old bridge that crossed the lake was out of water 3 months ago and now it is under water again raising the level at least 6ft and I know they have been openning the gates. I can't say that I have ever seen this part of Tx. this green before. Walking in the grass get water oozing from the ground between your toes and the black top roads look like they have been shelled with pot holes as big as my tires (scary because I drive a Honda Civic). This is the second day I've seen w/o rain in I don't know how long, but it's not over yet. I think I liked the drought better, if I wanted to live with this much rain I'd move to Oregon. The worst part is the crappy drivers and their big ass trucks which are present in about 85% of the traffic accidents. No floods in my area that have effected me but roads are closed all over the place due to high water.
Jeez, I went cruisin' from Claremore to Oolagah via 88. They're sayin' there gonna need to release even more water :X I saw the lake, everything's flooded looks eerie. Lotta at-risk properties around keatonville hill

I know I may be jinxing myself but the rain appears to be gone from here for the most part. Now come the mosquitoes. :(
We have had so much rain our neighbors tree waterlogged and broke down to a 6 foot stump. I wish I had gotten picture. The tree was so big grass couldn't grow beneath it due to lack of sunlight, so it had no front lawn.

It's raining here again today. The lake is still way over my pond which is now a smelly, festuring backwater full of weeds and floating debris. I'm probably going to have to drain it and start over after all this is over.
But, the house seems to above any potential flood level. I can't really whine about a pond when half of Coffeyville, KS is wiped out.
Ok.
Yes I can.

This is just nasty. It's the first grove of trees you passed on the way to the creek crossing. It looked like a tiny park. The one you took a left by to get on top of the dam. Now it's polluted, stinky, and where I should be lying in a hammock on an evening like this.
Instead, there are dead, bloated rats and this junk floating around. The mud reeks like a freakin swamp bottom.
Any of you city folk that don't know what that smells like, I'm sorry. There is no explaining. It's kind of like sewer gas. You don't want it on you.
I rode down after work and thought I'd have a beer by the pond as I am fond of doing when I get home....decompress some...hell even a flooded pond is cool right? The stench is so bad, I had to come back to the house.
I am totally bummed out about all of this. When the water goes down I'll probably be down there power washing the dirt and trees. I want my awesome chill spot back.
