I just got a new stick of memory bumping me up to 1.5 gigs but it wont finbd any f****** drivers. I got on the companys website to find they suck balls. I called customer support to find they were all "away from the phone right now". They suck balls to. I cant find any way of finding any kind of drivers for this stupid stuff. If anyone knows anything of how to fix this I would really like some help.

Kev, you don't need drivers for Memory sticks. Are you sure you got the right type of memory and did you check your settings within your Bios?

Calm down Kev. Take a breather and talk us thru your scenario.
What kind of RAM does your system take? What did you buy? Was it supposed to be paired?

I had a stick of 512mb in there already. It was 266 pc2100 184 pin. so I got a stick of 1gb 266 pc2100 184 pin. I have to slots for ram in my mother board. Both are now full. My mother board supports 2 1 gig sticks max so I know it can hanlde this.
I didnt think I needed a driver for ram but it says I do. I have done nothing in bios yet. I dont think I know what to do in bios for ram.

Typically, whenever you install new RAM, the first boot up, you have to go into the BIOS so it can recognize your new RAM module. Just go into your BIOS and then save/restart.
That is the typical procedure. Is it possible your new module is defective?
Can you boot up? Where does it get stuck?

I am so stupid. I just took out my 512 stick to find that it says pc2700 on it. I have 2 sticks with differnt typs in there. I am now running just the 1gig stick and it works fine.
Is it not possable to run a pc2100 and a pc 2700 stick at the same time or do I have to get ram of the same type.

Not possible.. or if it is indeed possible, all ur RAM will be running at the same speed as the slowest one.. which, needless to say, could fark shat up.

Yes. It should run at the slowest speed. Now, if he's mixing ECC and non-ECC.... that could be the reason.

I have no idea what ecc is. They are as far as I can see the same in every way except for that my old 512 is pc2700 and my new 1gig is pc2100. They are both 266 184 pin. If i put them both in it will only recognize the 512 stick and it will say found new hardware. It will ask for drivers. If I only put the 1gig in it runs great. I can live with 1 gig for now and get another gig later but I would like this 512 also if you know of a bios flash that would fix this or somthing like that.

That is strange. I don't ever recall XP asking for driver for installation of a stick of memory. It could have found something else. Install the 1 Gig of memory and change your setting in your Bios. Or return the memory and get another stick of 2700 512K ram.

I cant return it. It is non refundable. I got it off new egg.

New Egg always accepts returns...if they won't for some reason sell it on ebay

Is a stick of 512 and a stick of 1 gig together better then just a stick of 1gig. My friend who is 52 and builds these things says if you put 2 sticks of different type in there, even if they are ddr, you lose the speed and they become sdr. He said it depends on if you are looking for speed or size. He said as a gamer speed would be better but I dont really trust everything this guy says. I would like a second opinion.

ddr does not magically become SDRAM by mixing diffrent types of DDR, it will just make the ram down clock to the lower speed
IE: 1 stick of 512 ddr400 + 1 stick of 512 ddr333 = 1gb of ddr333
putting a single stick of ram in with a dual channel setup causes dual channel to turn off
IE: matched pair of ddr400 + single stick of ddr400 = 1.5gb non-dualchannel ram
putting in an amount of memory over your motherboard specs will cause it to have errors regestering memory
IE: board supports upto 1gb of either 1 stick of 1024 or 2 sticks of 512, put in
3 sticks of 512 = crashes
2 - 3 sticsk of 1024 = crashes
2 sticks of 512 + 1 stick of 1024 = crashes
1 stick of 256 + 1 stick of 1024 = crashes
i think you get the point there
issues with ram
1. pull a stick and see what happens check install.
2. check bios to see that speed is the same as what the ram is rated at(also check timings from the manu)
3. run mem test to see if any ram is bad
4. if bad remove and replace, if not your sol.
and that conculdes bonezs quick guide to ram.

I have recently upped my ram from 256, to 512, i didn't have to go through the bios. Then i added the 256 back in for a total of 760, again i didn't have to go through bios. BTW this is on xp. On windows 9x you have to go through bios.
