Bookmark Icon

Hey, has anyone thought about making a bookmark icon for WiH? You know that little icon that sits next to the bookmark name in your bookmarks? Or up there in the tab. Just thought one might be good to have eventually. Like a little WiH icon or a little soldier icon.

Attached is a sample of a soldier I found and shrank an doctored to be a 16x16 icon that could be used if you want.

funny you bring it up, I have been experimenting on one for some fun. The ones that I did way back when were only for fun, and they didn't really look that good that small.

You can actually use an animated icon. I was looking for something to use to make an icon that would scroll "War is Hell Gaming" since I have free time at the moment, but my choices are extremely limited since I am at work. :(

Here is the original with a black border. Looks a bit cleaner in the tab with the border. I would suggest using this one of the two I posted if you use them.

You can actually use an animated icon. I was looking for something to use to make an icon that would scroll "War is Hell Gaming" since I have free time at the moment, but my choices are extremely limited since I am at work. :(

Actually I would suggest against this. While it would look pretty cool it would take up more space than a bookmark icon should. There is no reason why a bookmark icon should be more than 1k. Search all through the internet and you will find very few that have .gif slideshow images as bookmark icons.

The last time I tried making ico's the results were'nt great.

Are bookmark ico's the same as exe's ones in that you need to make different sized ones for each screen resolution or is there some internet standard size?

All the ones I saw when I took a sampling of random ones were 16x16 though there were very few that were actually 32x32 but the grand majority was 16x16.

Icons should be 16x16. You can work at size like 32x32 or any other multiple of 16 and then when finished, reduce it to 16x16 and save as an icon. Just a little hint b/c 16x16 is hard to work with.

I did that already on the first page. That little soldier icon with and without a black border. I was thinking a bit of feedback on that. It's an attachment.

Ok here is another attempt at making a bookmark icon.

Owners of War is Hell. Give me a simple yet distinct symbol that is not the Classic WiH lettering that demonstrates what War is Hell is about.

I came up with that little soldier dude but if there is something else that comes to mind I will attempt to create it. There are a lot of ideas out there. Go to just about any website, bookmark it and you will see what it looks like.

From symbols to art to single letters there are all sorts. I need some ideas.

I'm tired of seeing my War is Hell bookmark with a boring white piece of paper as an icon.

I could make it a big dollar sign and rename the site War for Profit or War is Profit or change it into a religious site called What is Hell.

I personally don't like animated icons... They're a bit eye-catching and that's not what I'd want at my work place. :)

Ok I made a simple yet distinctive cross hair icon for bookmarks.
It's obviously a scope cross hair and it's done with black background, white cross hair lines and shades of gray highlight to show some interest. I made it a little artistic in that it looks almost like a spiral.

Second attachment is without the spiral design.

Try making a mushroom cloud. I'd like to see that.

Here's another idea, take the soldier you made an give him a head like a devil. That might be very distinctive.

The cross hair looks kinda broken up. Can it be smoother looking and can we see blk on wht and wht on blk?

Edit: We (the owners) talked about it and want one but we want it static not animated.

Do please keep in mind that this icon is 16x16 pixels. So don't expect too much detail. :)
I'll attach some more ideas to this post a little later and you guys can say yay or nay.

I got the WiH lettering to look half way decent. Hard to adjust single pixels to fool the eye into thinking it looks like something.

1st WiH is the original. 2nd WiH has a little more interest with a bit of shading.

Also here are a few more Sniper Crosshair icons.
Using different shades of color and I cleaned up the lines making it look more even.

I personal favorites are the 4th version of the cross hair and the 2nd version of the WiH.

Kilroy, Does your favicon meet these requirements:

* ...16 pixels by 16 pixels
* ...in the ".ico" Win32 format
* ...named "favicon.ico"

If so, email it to wihadmin@warishellgaming.com plz.

All's we have to do to activate it is put it in our root directory (at least to test it). There maybe more involved for FireFox but I doubt it.

Well damn. The icon was 21 x 21 pixels. I thought maybe internet code scaled it down.

So made the same icon scaled down to 16x16. I had to edit it to be readable.

Emailing it to account listed. Renamed favicon.ico and it is saved in .ico format.

It's working for me in Firefox. I had to clear cache to get it to show.

But it's not working on IE v6.

How about the rest of you?

Works in IE 7 - Version 7.0.5730.13
Works fine with Firefox 2 on both Windows XP and on Ubuntu.

Ok I'm dumb, but I bet I'm not the only one :) ....... How do you clear your cache in firefox???

To Clear Cache in Firefox on Windows XP

Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Private Data

Click on Settings and see what it will clear. Uncheck what you want to keep.
Press Clear Now

It's different depending on platform if you use Linux.
