The recent decline of WiH CS/S has bummed me out to the max.

What caused it? Only on e thing. The parasitic loss of key members to GW. My own website is suffering from a similiar thing, with the same results. I quit trading stocks and started playing CS, didn't hang out on my boards, and the result? No traffic, no board.

Great boards are not the result of some accident. What makes a great board are great posters with a common interest. This website was prospring because of a great group of people that played a great game. And those people all came and posted here about it.

I must say, that while the game remains, the focus has changed, and only a limited amount of posting remains.

I for one, am totally bummed out by the total abandonment of CS by the regulars. While after playing GW to level 19 myself, I believe that it does get boring easily and is a short term phenom, and I do feel that the group will be back to CS sooner than later. I certainly hope I am correct.

The site and it's servers are nothing without the characters that made it what it was. You characters need to come on back and play. ANd post. And keep this server and this website alive.

Put the GW crackpipe down and recognize what you are losing.

Your 100% on the mark. Guild Wars does get boring. In order to reach the next level of play for Player Combat, you need a guild hall and cohesive practiced teamwork. WiH players have neither of those 2 things yet and Counterstrike beckons. However Bob, BF2 is right around the corner and Im pretty sure 100% of players will be playing that.

Woot!!! BF2 will rule.

I can't wait.

Stilll need memory upgrade, but my 6800GT seems to be working. Last night the water in CS looked freakin amazing. I actually had to stop running to "B" and just look at it.

I do get some disorienting weird looking translucent screen overlays when I'm flashed, but hey, I'm flashed right? LOL

i know i'll be back to cs once i get my frickin computer upgraded (or a new one for that matter). however, i'm tired of playing cs:s in 800/600, and guild wars does look pretty good even with my shitty computer.

i promise i shall return, eventually, i hope...

Bob, I've been a bit bummed about the same thing. I'd like to blame Guild Wars for the decline, but I really think it started a bit earlier.

It seemed for a while, everyone was getting very frustrated w/ CS and not playing as much. I don't know if it was just hackers / cheaters / TKers, or slumping / general frustration that caused the lapse. The new games just offered a further distraction.

I've been back to playing CS for about 7 months now. I quit the first time because of the issues listed above. The only reason I've continued to play as long as I have is this community. I love jumping onto the servers, even if it's just for a 5 minute break from mowing the lawn, and seeing a bunch of familiar faces.

I hope the community will continue to thrive. New games will be released, and we'll all buy them and try them, but our roots are in CS. We've got to continue to feed that side too, because that's what brought us all here, and made WiH what it is...

And now, back to my yardwork. :yuck:

I agree with Bob's post, but I got one additional thing to add.

Last night, when I got home LATE, there was noone on. I jumped on the server, by myself, and within 15 minutes we had several players on.

My point is, that nobody wants to join an empty server. But, WIH servers are so good that even if ONLY one person is on players know more will come. So if you want to play, and got some time to kill, jump on the server and mess around a little. Ring the bells, try to find new spots to hide, whatever floats your boat. :) Hang out for about 15 minutes and see if anyone shows up.

I think it was Bob that said it last night, "You build it" (or populate it) "they will come"

I think Jwol is right on the mark... I for one was gettin extremely frusterated with CS for a while there.

As for GW.. I love it, and I'll be playing it A LOT for a while (considering I have a new character and there are other places to explore).
BUT, that doesn't mean I'll be abandoning CS... I was playin quite a bit last night, actually.

I think once BF2 hits shelves, the lot of us will be back together again, splattering each others insides all over the scenery

Nonetheless, CS will always thrive.. that, u can be assured of.

i have uninstalled Steam an all associated software. not sure if i will be reinstalling it again every update from steam has made this game more and more unplayable for me. i had gotten halfway decent at this game only to get awful once again went from finishing near the top on every map to finishing on the bottom almost every time. this combined with the totally shitty maps they have put out have really got me in a twist. the latest update causes my steam to crash should i alt/tab out of the game also crashes randomly the only time it happens is with steam, so i know it is not my computer is is valve's shitty software.

If the original CS could be THIS popular for so long, CS:S will have its ups and downs too.

I'm sure that we'll see new players all the time.

I agree with all of you guys. I just started playing CS:S when the beta came out so im far from burnt out. I wanted to try GW but I just cant see it being better than CS so I never thought about buying it. I dont even play CS if I cant play in War Is Hell because it seems like a totally different game with none of you guys in there. So hopfully when BF2 comes out people will play that and all the famillar faces that I have come to see will be there and once we get bored or am not playing that we will play CS:S.

Having reflected on my first post a little more, I came to realize it not "what you guys are losing" that bothers me, it's what I feel like I'm losing. Probably pretty selfish of me to expect you all to play CS just because I miss your company.

That said, I still miss your company. The game is a great game, even with the obvious problems, but without the Filthys, Monos's, Alfs and Prowlers of the WiH world gathered on the server, it just ain't the same.

(Obviously, no offense to the one's I didn't list, I miss you all *sniff*)

Cue gloomy music, fade to gray.....

Agreed on the fact that the people made this server what it is. I talk alot of smack to and about people while we're blasting our brains out in game. Mainly Zil and Bob and the favorite targets, but i do it couse thats how i like to mess about with people i like. I type out some really weird shiat on a regular basis, and i love the fact that the people on these formus and servers can find humor in it. And thats VERY hard to find, belive me. So all of you bastiges need to get off your hacking butts and get out there more, i need to be put in my place before i start thinking im worth a damn. :flipoff: :jerkit:

I must say, I have been managing my time between Guild Wars and CS pretty evenly but it has made me play CS less. I can't necessarily say CS has been getting worse with updates but I do get bored with the same old maps all the time. The strategies become self evident and everyone know what they are on the regular maps. Then the games' outcome is dependant on which team happens to be stacked that round. I am still a big proponent of either creating a custom map server or filtering through some custom maps on the exsisting server.

I also must say, I enjoyed playing more when FF was on. The strategies have been diluted because you can nade and spray anything that moves now. I know this was an attempt to get more new players on the server but I think it hasn't really improved traffic. If anything, more regulars have stopped playing and we have the kind of new players we don't really want.

I also hope that not everyone disappears to BF2 when it releases. I can't really afford to drop another $55 bucks after buying GW...

Maybe that's why I still have more fun than most. Since I have a chronic lack of short term memory and still cannot tell you the name of the map I am playing on (except dust and port which are real easy on my mind), each day is like starting all over from scratch. :hehehe:

And strategy? Mine is simple. Rush the front. Get lost. Search and destroy, go go go! Aaaaargh!!!

Never gets old.

Good strategy bob. But the allure of CSS is definatelly the server. I never play css on another server, they just sux. I don't money to go out and buy BF2 so yall better come back.

I agree CSS owns and always (except in 3-4 years) will. So they'll be back. I hope :appz:

If I ever come back to a HL2 mod it's going to most likely be DoD:S if that ever comes out.

As for the whole community disappearing/dying or whatever, it's not that were all leaving but we are just not playing CS:S that much. I know a lot of us are either fed up or just tired of CS and many took GW as something else to do until BF2 comes out. Everyone (well most people, since a few of us can't/don't know if we can run BF2) will be back to the same game when BF2 comes out. It is kind of sad though when I go to play CS for a bit and see the one WiH server not even full when there used to be two often full servers.

The FF-Off server has been hopping for the past week in the evenings. The community isn't dying. It's diversifying. :)

I played one round of CS:S, hated it, then uninstalled it... Anyway, you want to hear the same voices everynight, hop on POE, we get the same group pretty much every night, along with some diversity... I like Guild Wars, but it hasnt consumed my soul, I still get an hour to two into POE, and as for the community, as long as they make games we like and play the community will stand, I mean this community is one of the most diverse, From CSS, to BF, and GW, along with the other games played, this place is nothing but growing!!!
