2142 Server Shutting Down [Archive]

Due to lack of interest in our BF2142 server the Owners have decided to shut it down. We tried to give it some time to re-populate but it just didn't happen. We can't afford to have a server that isn't populated.

The server will be shut down at the end of the month.

As much as it saddens me, I do have to say thank you to the owners for having the server for the time it was up. I know you guys dish out your own hard work money to have the servers up and running.

The anti-2142 crowd, many of whom left after the VBf2 server was sacrificed, are justified with this announcement. Was it worth it?

What anti-2142 crowd? There was a huge demand for 2142 when it was being released. It just did not have the staying power, so it is being dropped. What is the problem?

2142 was a good game but idk it did get old fast. i think it was all the titan problems, and the jack-a-lopes that play hah its still the only fps i play, but i dont have enough time between NWN 2 and diablo 2(only cause my gf plays) and all this talk about diablo 3 im only so much into the shooting haha, jeeze thats most defently to DnD side of me talking:dunno:

True, there was a demand for 2142. However (idealistically) the Battlefield communities should have fought harder for getting EA to take pride in their work rather than their money and fix Bf2 first before simply accepting a new game. Also, had the communities fought for finishing the Bf2 series first, perhaps EA would've spent more time perfecting 2142 and giving it the longevity that it should've had. Instead, Bf2 was left wanting, 2142 was left wanting, your 2142 server was left wanting, EA has hurt its credibility a lot and quite of few members and potential members of the WiH community have scattered to the wind.

No, that was due to people complaining about BF2142 before even trying it out. Once the game was out, many of the people who were originally against it tried it out and liked it. It also had to do with the massive ammount of people continously making "I HATE EA" topics.

Since when has EA actually listened to the gaming community about any of their products? For example, they never integrated Special Forces into BF2. Money was squeezed, they moved on.

No petition, or boycott, or tantrum thrown was going to get them to deviate from the course they were already on. Asking a publicly held company to look past the money is a dream bordering on fantasy delusions.

This community is still strong and regulars are merely those players that play a lot on the servers, you were merely replaced with someone else.

Get over yourself.

I do have to just add that although they suckered me into buying it (you're welcome EA) I never liked it after I tried it... and it has since been uninstalled. :)

Not bashing EA though, they did a great job getting the $$$ out of everyone.

You might want to check out these stats regarding our community a day or so after the 2142 demo became available to the pubic and we made it available on our FTP server. On that date we had the most users ever online at one time, 109.

Since then we've had the following new members join on a monthly basis:

they shut it down because its empty all the day (the last weeks)
they changed it to Titan some weeks ago but it didnt work!! then they changed it back to conquest and after some days the same problem!!!
so why the owners must pay for an empty server!!
i like 2142 but i agree with this decision!!
and dont forged its the money of the owners!!
the last weeks more people play PR.4 or5 but this servers costs money too!! so why not take the money for servers that are populated!!
if you were an owner, would you give your hard earned money for an server that is empty all the day for a lot of weeks??

I think one reason alot of people didn't like 2142 was because you die a lot more then BF2. I personally like 2142 more than BF2. Its more of a challenge.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the BF2 and BF2142 servers have always been Ranked servers = COST LOTS AND LOTS OF $$$$$$ The PR server, and other mods are relatively inexpensive to operate.

I noticed there's only like 400 ranked servers for 2142. I recall seeing a lot more. I got off college early today and idled for a while on 2142 and nothing. The server was ranked 12 at on point. I wonder why people are not hopping back into the server since its back to conquest mode. Weird. Guess we lost the crowd when the server was switched to titan.

2142 is an awesome game and it is one I continue to keep playing above all the other ones. I love playing with all the WIH guys nightly but with all the server stability issues and then the titan lag, I think it just drove off the bulk of players.

Would yall be willing to keep it open if we, as an enitre community, made an effort to keep it populated every night and try to return it to it's place of glory? I had no problem playing the server when it was low population, I just stopped playing on it when there werent enough people to even start a game.

That was the problem. It's always empty or doesn't have enough people to start a game. We believe it is time the 2142 server go away.

:silly:Gaming comes before community. If someone has absolutely no games to play in a gaming community, them leaving sounds fine.

Atleast when VBF2 left there was a little action on CS:S, 2142 (for like a week), and all the mods. For someone with only 2142 this sucks badly.

unfortunatly i DONT HAVE BF 2 i only have bf 2142 so if there are no servers AT ALL to play on why would i stay?

@Fellik...I have a copy of BF2 that I never play that you can have. Flim Flam originally gave it to me, and I liked it at first, but just couldn't get over the constant dying and having to get back to the fight...plus I sucked. I would be willing to give it to you at no cost if you would like to try it out.

If you noticed around here at WIH, it isn't about how good one is even though there is some talk but about it, but having fun and "meeting" people with similar interests while enjoying a good time playing whatever game and the version the server has at the moment. So please stay around at least in the forums if nothing else.
oh, yes i will, but still i wish theyd keep the server up...

killer_b i dont want a copy of the game unless i buy it myself... want to have some satisfaction know that i did it not someone else (includes buying the game)

overall though i'm just kind of angry that i wont be able to play on the server anymore...

This is in my opinion a sagely answer by the Foz. I really don't care for BF2 or 2142, but I do love squadding up with the regs and sharing in the triumph of victory and the agony of defeat. For me its always been about that. Hell I'm only an average skilled player anyway, so its not like I have the experience of lighting the world on fire day in and day out like some. Just love the brotherhood of the community.

bf2 isn't that expensive anymore, 30$?. and AF is only 10$?

so for 40$ you can join the server, just save up some money and you'll have it in no time. or get a job and you'll have it in 1 week :D

yesterday I tried to find out how the f*** I get my free vista from microsoft with that upgrade thingy they offer. so I called 5 different numbers, and I got 5 times some tape guy that I couldn't understand cuz he was talking dutch all wrong, it wasn't dutch anymore. so I get frustrated, go cuz the tape out, and didn''t noticed I got redirected to a real person :D So I ask him my question, and guess what? peep........peeep........peeeep he hung up. omfg!

so I still dont know how I get my free vista, microsoft sucks, 2 bad the whole world is using their products.
