hi there,

I was wondering if any of you had a similar issue and was able to solve it.

I was told that my mic in game is not loud enough, and when using TS it's fine.
I am unable to check the "mic boost" checkbox under audio options.

I have a 5.1 or 6.1 sound on board (am at work right now) and realtek interface for it, and I already tried to change the input to digital, in which case I hear the game effects too loud, impossible to play.

currently the settings are "software" and "medium", I also tried "hardware," but it makes no difference, I can not check that checkbox.
I installed the game on another computer over the weekend, with just a regular sound on board, and I was able to check the checkbox.

Does it maybe make a difference that I am using the fron plug for mic, instead of rear one? (I don't think it does, I assembled the thing myself, it comes from the same source)

Do you have any ideas?

Grateful for any response :)

You might have to enable mic boost in Windows first in order to have that option available in BF2. Just guessing.

Also, I've also heard that using a Sound Blaster audio card gets you better results than an onboard realtek chip. When I built my current system, I used onboard and it blew chunks. So I slapped in my old SB Audigy and everything was so much better.

Thanks wihadmin :)

I still have an external sound card. Nothing special, but I might give it a try. for the surround sound when using speakers, I was actually really happy with the on board thing.

I believe I tried mic boost in windows, but it wouldn't let me make any changes, I guess because realtek handles it. I will look into it as soon as i get home.

Thanks!!

cold in chicagoland, isn't it? :)

i have a realtek, and because of it, i cannot use voip outgoing (otherwise, voip shuts down right after i press the talk button)

this is found on the ea support website, it doesn't work for me.....but you can give it a try

Question Why does VOIP become disabled during gameplay?
Answer On systems with the onboard Realtek AC97 sound device, the VOIP functionality may become disabled during gameplay. When this occurs, the VOIP option becomes unchecked and cannot be rechecked while in the sound menu until you disconnect from the current game.
This is due to a hardware compatibility issue. Adjusting your hardware acceleration or updating your drivers may help resolve this issue. If it does not, you will need to disconnect and reconnect from the game in order to restore VOIP functionality.

Often time sound distortions or repetitive glitches can be the cause of a bigger problem. Sound driver conflicts can be linked to not just sound distortions and glitches but random and specific crashes during a game. You can temporarily disable some of the advanced audio processing techniques to try and bypass these issues by lowering your DirectX sound acceleration. To lower your sound acceleration, do the following:
Click Start.
Click Run.
Type in DXDIAG into the available text field, and press OK.
Once the DirectX Diagnostic tool has loaded, click on the Sound tab.
This tab will show you your sound device and drivers.
Warning : Should this tab be blank, refer to your computer manufacturer for the proper sound drivers.
In the DirectX Features section, adjust the slide bar from where it is currently to Basic acceleration.
Warning : This may disable advanced audio features which worked previously in other games. Should you notice a negative change in any other game, simply change the acceleration level back to where it was or to Full Acceleration.
Click the Exit button.
Start your game, and verify that the game now works properly.

Hey Lamah,

thanks for your response.
I tried making some changes in settings yesterday, but it got much worse :(
Before, it was at least working, even though not loud enough.

Even after bringing everything back to where it was, it didn't really work.
I deleted the profile & co. folders yesterday, before reinstalling everything, but
i couldn't get onto server to test it. I will try it tomorrow, and also update the drivers :)

I'll let you know if I find anything out!

if you really want to use voip fully, you probably need to use another sound card

btw, you don't want to play with "software" on sound setting, it's a real drag on your frames per second

i have a realtek 97...what ever POS onboard sound card that came with my comp and i've never had a problem with voip, other than my talking too loud or not loud enough. i also run TS while running bf2. maybe im lucky. the only sound problems i have are popping and some times, on some maps, especially sharqai, i hear a weird sound that sounds like the squeak made when those library chairs are pushed across the floor and their legs scrape. for a while i thought my parents were going mad, moving chairs every once in a while while playing that map.

well, I tried a couple of different things.
it's not the headset, it works fine in TS.

after deleting the profile and turning off mic boost in realtek thing, my mic works, but still not very loud. i can't check the chckbox either.

when I get back home, I will try updating the driver, and if that doesn't work, I guess I will use the external sound card that i still have.

thanks a lot for your ideas and help!

Thanks Chinoo,

I'll try that too if the above doesn't work. Won't be at my computer for few more days though.

Tried playing on my parent's computer yesterday, oooohhhh bad bad. I think I need to make some changes in settings.
