It free. Has a lot of storage space. And if you change your ISP you still don't have to change your e-mail.
Plus it is just plain cool

Almost 3 GB of storage, loads quick, few ads, easy to find emails if you have a gargantuan inbox like I do...

I have a gmail account; but the only disadvantage is that Gmail stores all your email, even if you delete it. Some emails have been used to prosecute others. So if you don't want someone to know anything, about you...Don't get a gmail account.
I have nothing to hide, so I have one (beta user).

Sort of, except gmail offered 1 gig of space when yahoo only offered 10 megs. Also, with gmail it seems like only spam mail actually gets filtered as spam. With yahoo, I was having really bad problems with my regular emails from people I knew getting filtered as spam, as well as newsletters that I signed up for. And what's worse, is that with yahoo a lot of the spam wouldn't even get filtered into the spam box and it would show up in my inbox instead.

I think it's different because of the AJAX programming makes gmail feel like it's a piece of software running on your local machine... just because AJAX reduces the number of times that the pages are reloaded and it the interface feels really really smooth.
I'm up to 2811mb of storage and counting... woo.

AJAX is the wave of the future. All my projects are now including it.

I was Javascript impaired for the longest time... I don't know what it was about JS but it made me wanna gouge my eyes out with a spork. I sat down and forced myself to get better at it since AJAX has become so much more popular... I'm now integrating it with my PHP and it's so SMOOOOOOOTH.

i like gmail it is easier to get access to then my server mail, since i have a couple more steps then it takes to log into gmail, i like the search function, it is great, the only problems is the storing and monitoring of the mails, but all web based solutions do this ( microsoft actually owns your mail and content via hotmail) the only problem with gmail is alot of employers block it.... but their spam filter is good too the 2.something gig is a nice amount, though i have also a terrabyte email account from someone else too though they are not that good
apparently the compnay has stopped providing the terrabyte service... no that i really used it *L*
